Firefly.

It was a one season 13 episode show that had such a rabid fan following they made the movie Serenity after it was given the axe by Fox.

Basically its like a western in Space in that poverty and bad people are everwhere and here is this poor luckless crew of misfits, war heros, criminals, and all round interesting people on a ship that gives new meaning to the word junk heep held together with string and bailing wire trying to make a living and constantly getting themselves into all sorts of hell for it. You can find it in a video store, but I'll bet you money if you watch it you will get hooked to it.
