Anybody out there started receiving money from the BDCP? I swore in 22 March and was wondering if anyone that swore in after me was receiving any. I read somewhere in here that they put us on a "list". Is the "list" a national one, or is there separate "lists" for different recruiting districts? Hate to sound greedy, but it gets hot on that tractor cutting hay, and it would be a whole lot easier knowing that I had that money coming in.

I swore in on April 4th, I was put on the list for BDCP as well. I heard it's a national list and only gets smaller every two weeks when they send people to OCS. Just hang in there.. I'm in the same situation as well.

Pardon me for being ignorant, but what is BDCP?

From what I gathered from other posts in this forum, seems like it's some kind of scholarship program for college students who want to join the Navy after they graduate. Do you guys get paid as an enlisted man, if so what paygrade? E-5? Are you guaranteed a flight contract? Also, does your time in service start to accumulate after you swore in?

Thanks.

Its the Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program and the Navy will pay you as an E-5 and I think they give you BAH. Its difficult to explain, but you can get a pilot guarantee without recieving the BDCP. Not vice versa. Also, you have to be in your last 2(?) years of college. I would imagine that service time does start after you swear in. I haven't really thought about that, but you do enlist with a special enlisted rate of Officer Candidate Under Instruction. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Shepherd,

Thanks for replying, but I'm still not clear on this: so you can get a pilot contract without BDCP, but you can't get BDCP with a pilot guarantee? Or you can't get BDCP WITHOUT a pilot guarantee?

Patmack,

I checked out your website and resume, very impressive. I talked to a F/A-18 pilot who was also a flight instructor before he went into the Marines, he said it certainly helped him get jets (not F/A-18 though, apparently it's a whole new ball game after Primary). I don't know what kind of aircrafts you want to fly (jets? Hornets?), I think if you keep up with your study and put in the efforts necessary, you will probably end up near if not the top of your class and getting the pipeline you want.

Good luck with your future endeavor. BTW, when are you going to OCS?

The BDCP is a program open to people w/in the last few years of college. (3 for a technical degree, and 2 w/out.) I did it for a year and a half. They garaunteed me a pilot slot, paid me as an E-3 plus BAH and I just had to sign saying that I would go to OCS after college. They require you maintain a 2.7 GPA and that you take a PRT every6 months and thats about it until OCS. You coolect a paycheck to go to college, you build up leave and time in service. I showed up to OCS with 45 days of leave on the books and a year and a half time in service and never did anything but sign my life away. The catch is that if you DOR from OCS then you owe the Navy two years enlisted service. I finished OCS in March 2001, so things may have changed but thats basically how it worked for me.

Hope that is what you are looking for.
