I was just sworn in on Friday and I was wondering if anyone knew the exact amount students get paid on BDCP. I am placed on E-3 pay which is about $1300/month. Does anyone know if this is right! I thought BDCP selectees got paid between $1700-$2000 per month.

It is my understanding that BDCP is E3 pay plus BAH. E3 pay is $1303 a month (taxable income) and BAH is determined by where you live. For you I think BAH will be $485 (tax free), If anyone else wants to calculate how much they can get from this program just go to the DFAS website. Look around there and learn how military pay works. The sooner you learn the better for you. BDCP is an incredible program so you had better not be complaining. However, you will soon learn that nothing is free.

Yeah, that is just the E-3 base pay. You will also get BAH for the area you live in on top of that. Not to bad for going to school.

Kevincjr1,
Congrats on getting into the BDCP program. I was wondering if you could tell me how long it took from the time you submitted your application to the time you got accepted. [Anyone else who is in the program, please feel free to answer.] Can someone who only has 51 credits be eligible for the program, and is it hard to get into with a decent package? Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

Hey marti and Patmack 18 thanks for filling me in. By the way I am no way near complaining. I didn't even have the program at first, all I had was the pilot slot without the money...So I know I was blessed with this free money. I was just asking about the pay because I remember when I first heard about the program I was told it was $1700/month and I was just making sure I wasn't getting the short end of the stick.
Uncledave, I really think it depends on timing and your personal application how long the process takes. I turned in everything on February 27 and I just got word that I was accepted on June 14. I was told that the process should only take about a month and a half, but the only news that I got after about a months time was that I made the board list...which was good news, but that wasn't the reply I was waiting on. But you really have to have patience, and this really has to be something you truly want because I heard cases where it took peolple almost 6 months to get an answer. But now that I look back I believe every minute of those three and a half months was well worth it!

Kevincjr1,
You mentioned that you were notified about making the board's list after a month or so. What is making the board's list? Getting the pilots slot, or being placed on BDCP waiting list? I am about to submit my packet and want to know how long these things may take (BDCP/Pilots slot). Thanx

aoconnor,
To this day I am still really not 100% sure what the board list is, but I know it is good news. But I know it is not the BDCP wait list, and I kindof think it is like a pilot slot. Because, early last week my recruiter told me that I was selected for a pilot slot but without BDCP and then a couple days later he informed me that he worked something out and got me on BDCP. But one thing I do know is that during my wait time I called to Millington Tennesse at headquarters and I asked them what the board list was and they said they couldn't tell me much, except that they had my application still on file and I haven't been denied and I was qualified. So even if it may take a long time to hear something remember what they say "No news is good news!" One piece of advice that I have is to stay on your recruiter, I mean call him all the time and ask whats going on...cause this is your future your talking about!

Kevincjr1, thanks for the insight. If you don't mind, what is your major? I am a 3.5 GPA, Peace,War, and Defense major at UNC-Chapel Hill heading in the direction of NFO. I really would like to get BDCP, but after just talking to my recruiter he stated that it most likely that I will not get it because I do not have a technical major. He said that BDCP has become very competitive, which is very understandable. However, BDCP or no BDCP, I am still full throttle towards a future in the Navy.

aoconnor,
First of all don't listen to that negative crap that you recruiter has to say! They have no more say than what we have. My major is Aerospace Engineering and my GPA is 2.97 but when I submitted my App. I had a 2.75. It is all based on faith and prayer. Just believe that everything will work out and be patient...It will come! Believe me! I was told that my chances were slim because of my GPA, but I didn't even mind those coments because they only motivated me! Alright I had a technical major but I didn't really have to GPA and I had some alright Letters of Rec. I had two from good friends of mine, One from a Navy Captain, One from someone who works at the FAA, and one from one of my aerospace Professors. But to be truthful I really didn't even think I would get it, but as soon as that thought would come in my head something would turn that negative thought around. By the way when do you graduate? I really wish you the best of Luck and I know everything will work out for you, maybe we will be in the same OCS class!
Michael Webb,
To answer your question I really don't know him personally I just kind of know him by association. And I do know he went to a program that I was trying to go to in Kansas regarding Flight School.

Kevin,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I graduate Dec/03. Therefore, I study and workout to keep my mind focused towards what is coming. As soon as I get my OCS date I will let you know, I hope it is around Jan/Feb 04. Thanks again.
