when people go down to OCS, do they transfer banks? I know the Navy does direct deposits so it wouldn't really matter... But then do you switch banks when you go to primary or whatever other school? Just curious what people normally do.
Navy Federal is the BEST for interest rates, etc. They have internet banking, bill pay and no big price tag with it. ATM fees are really low and banking is free. I would at least open it..because chances are down the road when you want to get that house or car, their interest rate will beat every other banks!!
Also, you have USAA, which in addition to their banking services, they have insurance also. Hands down the best insurance provider I have found, the two times I have had to file a claim they were prompt and curteous. FYI...
I've been using USAA for a long time and they are the best insurance/banking/investment company I've found. Not to mention they work with military (active/retired/prior/dependent/etc) only. They are great when over seas and getting you and your family ready for a deployment.
plug for USAA. Non profit association. . oooh rah.
Military friends told me for a couple years about their insurance rates being top notch and I just never looked into it. . well, my rates dropped 30% Banking service is outstanding. Knowledgeable. Board of Directors all pretty retired admirals/generals and master chiefs/sergeants major. . etc. For all you officer candidates and midshipman, 7.9% credit card until one year after commissioning (then 10%).
I got 1.9% on my visa for one year then 9.something after from USAA. USAA will also lower your interest rates if you go on deploymnet etc. Also got 4.9% on a 6 year car loan. Pretty damn good if ya ask me.
Is there a Wells Fargo branch down there? That's what I have now, and it'd be nice to have a bank there initially until I can switch to something like USAA.
