My second time seeing the series and it still invokes the same response in me as it did the first time, maybe even stronger since I've read the book since seeing it on HBO. I praise History Channel for not cutting it or censoring. Truly a work of art and a masterpiece everyone should be required to watch.

We were soldiers (the book)

While we're on the subject, a good movie (we were soldiers) is an even better book. The movie only covers half the book, as the latter half, Gen. Moore wasn't involved in the battle. You'll also notice that the movie is a little "Hollywooded" up. The climax of the movie wasn't exactly how it happened.

Yeah, I've heard the end wasn't that accurate. However, from what I understand, the rest of it is extremely accurate. I know that Moore and Crandall were on the set. Needless to say, that movie is fantastic and should also be required viewing. I was so thankful for a movie about Vietnam that didn't **** all over our troops and wasn't centered on drugs and whores.

I read the book after my brother and old man did, its the only book that all three of us have read one after eachother like that. I applaud the filmakers for their (relative) sincarity to the book. All in all, darn fine read for any of yall, and a heck of an overall package of a movie (picture, acting, etc...).

I have not seen the movies BoB, however I read the books. Can you rent them?

Oh, by the way, a Band of Brothers: Pacific is in the making by Spielberg and Hanks.

We Were Soldiers

My wife and I purchased the DVD and I watched all of 'extras' that are included. Moore was on the set and his input was very considerable in the making of the movie, right down to where they put latrines on the set and whether or not there were enough of the right kind of trees and grass (it wasn't filmed on location in Vietnam). There were some scenes that were cut, mainly from the end of the movie. Cutting out those scenes kept the story about the soldier(s) and not about the politics and that is what the whole point of the movie was. If you ever buy/rent the DVD I recommend watching the extra stuff just because it will make you appreciate the movie even more (at least I did).... especially if you liked the book.

I own both movies and have read both books as well. Both the books and the movies are excellent. The only thing is that the History Channel is censoring the movie. Just the language as far as I can tell though. I have only see two episodes on the H.C. though.

The only thing they are censoring, or have censored so far, is the F-bomb. I've noticed it a few times.

The FCC deemed that the "S" word is ok to say on national TV. I know that because South Park had a show where they used it like 167 times right after they said it was OK. I heard a rumor that they were going to make it ok to say the F-bomb as long as it didn’t refer to having sex.

It's because of the new TV ratings... they can pretty much put anything they want on TV now so long as it's rated. When Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan are on network TV full and unedited, I think pretty much anything else can go so long as it is rated such. South Park streches the limits every week, but its TV-MA, so Stone and Parker can get away with a lot.

Actually, the funny thing about South Park was that after they went and used the S-word 167 times in one episode, they used it only once in the next one. And it was bleeped. Deliberately.

If I remember correctly, it was right after an "NYPD Blue" character said the S-word during a diologue scene, and it was all hyped up as being so radical and stunning, that the SouthPark guys decided to make a mockery of it and use it 167 times, but then never again.
