Can anyone give some hard numbers on attrition rates amongst SNA's, specifically those beyond the age cut-off of 27.5. My OSO has told me that MCRC has stopped granting age-waivers for Air contract due to the high attrite's. I do not see the logic in these numbers considering most people are more locked on at 28-30 than they were at 23!! Anybody??

kaiken82,
i can't speak for others, but i was lucky enough to get an age waiver and i'm in advanced helos and i'm now 30...i was 28 years old when i was accepted to go to OCS. locked on???? it depends on the individual. i have been out of college for more than a few years, and i've noticed that i'm not as smart/quick mentally as i used to be. i have to study a lot more to retain what i used to only have to spend short amounts of time on. Maybe i should have played more nintendo/sega/playstation...that may have helped me with my monkey skills. i don't know the percentages of attrites vs. age waiver types in primary or at helos. all kinds attrite, regardless of age. maybe it's more of a factor in jet advanced...yet, jet advanced doesn't seem to discriminate on who gets ousted.
again, my $.02.

If I remember correctly I was told last week that the attrition rates for Marines from API to the Fleet is somewhere in the 10 percent range (I know it's lower then all the other branches :). The Major in charge of Officer recruiting for Air Contracts in the South East Region (6th District) did his Masters thesis on attrition rates during flight school. If I can find his e-mail address then you should ask him. I know his name is Major Duke, but that's all I've got with me at the moment.

We had an Marine AOM at VT9 where the senior Marine delivered the same news. He also stated there was also a strong correlation between number of kids, prior enlisted and attrition.
My _personal_ perspective on it is that older studs are less likely to want to jump through the hoops. I'm 27 and there are days I simply don't want to play the "you know nothing game" If you go jets you have to accept being scum for 18-24 months.

Actually this was the one back in early sept. Lot's of stuff on the ball, get fit for the PFT and finding out about EWS. And oh yeah we got yelled at again:) Actually that gouge on what's going on in the training command was good, including the supposed high Vance attrition rates and why that means we won't be doing the 12 hour formal release the airforce does.
