Who the fvck wrote this!?

The U.S. Army is planning an involuntary mobilization of thousands of reserve troops to maintain adequate force levels in Iraq and Afghanistan, defense officials said on Monday.

Involuntary??? They signed on the fvucking dotted line! I hate journalists.

Thanks for the help with the link. I do believe we are short of troops, however, the average cost that I have heard is $1B per year 10,000 troops. The money's got to come from somewhere. At least when you use reserves, you don't have to pay active duty pensions (I am sure that figures into it.)

And the "involuntary mobilization" is the correct phrase.

Anyway you look at it... calling up the IRR am not good. I had heard that they were using the IRS to track some of these guys down.

"...the Individual Ready Reserve, mainly made up of soldiers who have completed their active duty obligations..."

"The defense official said that while soldiers in the Individual Ready Reserve have served their voluntary obligation in the Army they still can be mobilized involuntarily for several years after returning to civilian life."

I think those two links talk about the same callup. They're not involuntarily taking active reservists but people who've already signed the dotted line...of their discharge papers.

The Army was forced to cut way too much back in the early 90's. Some of those divisions need to be re-started.

But I'm sure the media's still gonna milk the "involuntary" bit for all it's worth about how victimized our soldiers are by the evil government.

Right after 9/11 they told my dad to stand-by (IRR AF Intel) and he is almost 50. Eventually, they left him at home because he compressed five vertebrates in a car accident, but I still thought it was wierd since we hadn't started open talks with the UN at that point.

What does the UN have to do with anything? They don't tell us when to go to war, it's just a nicety to let them know.
