AR-15 Build

Putting together my AR finally..

Decided on a "dissapator" style (16in barrel, with 20 in sights)

Any reason NOT to use an A3 upper (has a rail) with the detachable handle and iron sights for now? No scope in the immediate future, but I can't think of why the A3 upper would be bad.

I was going to build an M4gery, but I figured, if I have to have a 16" barrel to avoid the NFA game (might in the future, but not now) I might as well have 16" of barrel, instead of 14.5 with a welded on flash hider.

I have been looking at:

www.model1sales.com

www.jtdistributing.com

Any other "good but not stupid expensive" kits out there?

Since the Dissipator doesn't resemble any actual M-16 out there, no, there is no reason. If you were building an A2 model or a straight M-4orgery, then a fixed handle would be good for authenticity. Go with the flattop, you can put optics, etc on there in the future.

I have a 16" M4orgery barrel with standard birdcage flash suppressor.

Both my ARs are built off their kits. They work well.

+1 also for M1S. Though they sometimes get a bad rap on the internet, I've had nothing but good shooting from their uppers. I, "personally", would go for a Rock River Arms lower and b/c/ch just because people seem to say they make really nice lowers and quality bolt carrier groups. I think we chatted once, I'm in the process of putting together a sniper AR, will post pictures when finished.

Coming down to M1s and JT.

Anyone know what shipping is? I have emailed both places asking, no response. Both websites state something to the effect "we will let you know what it is when we charge you"

Just leery of that, seen too many Ebay/Interweb type places charge recockulous shipping.

AIM Surplus does that all the time, I hate it. Call them, you should get an answer that way.

Rock River has some pretty good stuff. If you don't want to spend the $$ for Wilson, that is the best choice in my opinion. I went with Wilson, as I got a VERY good price:D

Here is my flattop M4 with the EO Tech mounted. I also have the carry handle for it.

I bought directly from JT Distributing (they even delivered personally to my house, how cool is that?), love the build, outstanding value for the money.

I want a pencil barrel M-16 style with 3-prong flash suppressor. Not M-16A1 or M-16A2. M-16, initial issue Vietnam era. They don't make em anymore :( I think the Colt SP1 was it.
