Application Question

On my first attempt, I only applied for Pilot and NFO. My question is does only applying for 2 slots instead of the possible 3 make me any less desirable? I just want to fly, I don't care if I'm a pilot or not, but that is all I want to do in the Navy, and is the reason I am applying. I have looked into other possibilities but nothing appeals to me more than Pilot or NFO. I just don't know if only applying for 2 jobs instead of 3 will make me seem less enthusiastic to serve.

hey what i was told is yes it kind of does make you less desireable. But if you want to fly and only that, only put that. if you get selected for somthing and dont accept it cause you want somthing else it could screw you for that chance. i know someone that put sna and NFO and but he really was only going to take SNA. well at the time they didnt need SNA but did need NFO. he turned it down and has applied about 10 times since then but hasnt had any luck and the recruiter thinks it was because they turned them down for the NFO.... But this is what i have heard if you want to be a pilot in the navy.. you need to make sure your mind thinks of it in this order...you are first want to be in the US NAVY SECOND YOU WANT TO BE AN OFFICER AND LAST YOU WANT TO BE A PILOT. i have actually only put down one choice for the BDCP and that was SNA. and i am pretty sure i will be given my final select within the week. my packet is pretty competitive but i only put down one choice.

Well I kicked around putting down AMDO for the 3rd slot, but only for the sake of seeming very eager, I don't know that I would take it if selected. I think I will just leave Pilot and NFO on the app. I want to serve first and fly second, but flying is the only thing I want to second. I think putting down only two choices rather than turning down something I don't want will benefit me more in the long run. Any how, thanks for the tips guys, they have helped alot.

All I put on my application was SNA and I was selected. Just make sure you have a strong application and you show your desire to serve in the military as well as that you feel that the best way to do that, for yourself, is by flying. If you don't want to be stuck as SWO or Supply than don't put those things down. There's a lot of guys in my class that all say, "I wanted to be a pilot but..." Well now they're diving in a sub.

It doesn't make any difference one way or the other!! If you only want one thing put down just one. Just be very sure of your goal. If after getting cranked up about naval aviation and you don't get pilot will you suddenly want NFO? Hey, you could be unemployed. I won't try to sell anyone on NFO in this post. But, just be sure you have all your based covered. If all you want is pilot/nfo, then fine. But if you have nothing lined up and like the adventure of the military then putting down a third choice is a good idea so you have an ace in the hole. If you don't fill out all three choice it will not hurt you. If you turn down your second choice and then realize you made a mistake and reapply, then you better write a pretty good letter explaining your actions. If you get a third choice and you don't want it and are willing to walk away from the navy because a better deal came up, that is ok. Just don't put something down you absolutely don't want to do. People spend many hours on your app and you are just wasting their time then.

Yes. I want to be a pilot, and if I don't get that than NFO is cool with me too. I would do either in a heartbeat.

I realize that, which is why I asked my original question. I just wasn't sure if not filling all 3 would look worse. My OPO is out of town so I tapped the AW source. Thanks to everyone who responded!
