Anyone get a flight physical in BDCP???

I am in BDCP and need to get a flight physical if that is possible. It's a long story and I don't want to get into it really, but I was temporarily NPQ due to an accident. I was cleared by my civilian doc and that was good enough for the BDCP people. Long story made short, I need to make sure that I won't get NPQ'd by a flight surgeon so I can wrap up an insurance claim.

So... anyone know how to get physical before I get to OCS???

Yeah, if you're in BDCP, all you need to do is go by your local base with a flight medicine department. This will be the only location you can get it done because of the equipment and personnel needed for the physical. Make sure you have your medical records from BDCP and your military orders for your OCS date, all of which should have been given to you when you signed up. Take this to the customer service desk in the facility...you may have to ask where this is...and tell them you need to get into the system for a flight physical for OCS. They will then take your information and give you an appointment date, sometime in the near future.

Then, just show up and have fun! Also, I forgot to mention before that your previous medical records from BDCP will more than likely be with your recruiter at your command office. You'll need to contact them in order to get these sent to the medical facility.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have anymore questions. I'm BDCP too and just finished my pre-OCS flight physical.

usnmerritt, you rock. Great info! (I was curious about the whole thing myself and it looks like you answered all of my questions)

Well, to my knowledge, the closest place I can do that is Corpus Christi, TX. That's about 230 miles away from me - not exactly "local." It's worth it to go for sure, but I'll need to get my recruiter to help me out with scheduling an appointment. Hopefully it won't be too big of a deal. BDCP medical records and OCS orders? I wouldn't know a thing about either one. Maybe I won't have to worry about that. Thanks for the info.

Ben,

Haha, well...maybe I shouldn't have said "local" then! Sorry that the drive is so far, but you're right...it will definitely be worth it. Especially if they find something that can be corrected before you get your REAL NAMI wammie flight physcial!

Hope it all turns out well and good luck to you!

There should be something in San Antonio, Ben. They have tons of flight personell there, and that's only an hour away. Let me know if you find something there because I may go get mine done too. Also, when do you leave? Should be close by now.

Yeah, jg is right...San Antonio is the Mecca for so much aviation-related stuff in Texas. And, you know you don't have to go to a Navy base right? You can go to anything with a flight medicine department.

Although, AF muffins seem to look at us Navy men in a different light...oh well, don't ask don't tell is my policy too. Just watch who you bend over for at an AFB!

Well it's kinda complicated. Long story, but I've got some still-recovering injuries from a motorcycle crash last year. I'm gonna wait till OCS to get my flight physical in case they DQ me. If I were to get NPQ now then I'd just lose all the BDCP money between now and OCS. Plus, according to my NRD, if I NPQ for SNA at OCS I may get to redesignate. If I NPQ BEFORE OCS then I am SOL and out of the Navy. So for me it makes more sense to just wait it out and sweat the NAMI bullets when I get there. Oh, and since you asked, I was supposed to be in OCS already but they rolled me back until February. That's a good thing though, more time to bust my ass into shape.

I am pretty sure if you DQ SNA and don't redes, then you will be going enlisted for a few years since you are BDCP. If you NPQ for the Navy then that is a different story.

Well the way that I understood it when I signed the paperwork was that a NPQ for SNA meant that I could redesignate into something else if I wanted to. I thought that if they offered me a spot in a community I didn't want then I could say no. The way the enlisted thing was explained to me was that you have to serve enlisted if you quit school or graduate and decide not to go to OCS. I don't think they can make me serve out an enlisted contract if I NPQ for SNA. It's not my fault they don't do flight physicals until OCS.

I completely agree with you, but make sure if something like that does happen your reenlistment code is a good one. RE-1 or something like that, maybe the recruiters on here can help me with that, but if you ever want to come back in after your med problem clears up or you decide to do something else, that is the first thing they look at. It basically tells them if you got out on good terms or not. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but my brother was NPQ'd SNA and they gave him a bad reenlist code. It took him months to change it so that he could fly for the Army. They wouldn't let him in until he got it changed. He now flies Apaches so it not that big a deal, just a pain.
