anybody married to another officer?

hi there,
this is my first post and am wondering if anyone knows the navy's policy about stationing married couples at the same location. If it helps, my wife is applying for a supply officer position, and I have a pilot slot, reporting to OCS May 5, 03. When I am in pilot training, she will be in OCS, and then to Athens, GA for supply school. My question is when she graduates will she be able to be stationed with me while in pilot training or will they place her wherever they want and expect us to stick it out until my training is done.I know there are shore billets and billets that have sea duty for 6 months, but how do they decide where she goes? Also, will it affect what plane I am assigned?

hey man. the navy's policy is too "try" to co-locate married service members. When I was in my wife and me got stationed together but, in your situation I don't think she'll be stationed with you at pilot training. Also she would most likely go to a ship after Supply School. probably in Norfolk, VA. or San Diego, CA. These are the most common first duty locations in the Navy. Remember you'll both be officers so it wouldn't be prudent to think of it like "shes following me" you both will have different careers. But, on the bright side is once you get your platform/plane and she is out of school then you guys will have a more clear view of where to get stationed. i.e., if you go P-3 then she'll try to get a AIMD Shore billet. in my experience they usually have one married person at sea while the other is on shore duty.

The military in general trys to colocate but believe me, it is difficult. A friend of mine, who just got out of the Navy, was regionally colocated with her husband. She was an H-60 pilot stationed at North Island and he was an E-2 NFO stationed at Miramar. Over the course of their marriage, they have endured 7 deployments on opposite schedules. Her second tour, she was lucky enough to be an instructor at the HMLAT-301 (Marine Cobra/Huey RAG) at Camp Pendleton so that she could stay in the area. He became the TAR (Active duty instructor at a reserve squadron)in an E-2 squadron which I believe is still in Miramar. If not, then he's commuting to Point Mugu, 3 hours to the North of San Diego. It can be done but it takes a lot of hardwork and a whole lot of determination to make it work. This is but one example. Good luck! Frumby
