Im pretty sure it is safe to say that it is rare that a kid who 'sometimes' hangs out with the wrong crowd moves on to commit armed robbery. Everyone in this society seems to be a victim even if they are the ones who are guilty...

Of course this Marine had every right to defend himself, and it sucks that 2 people got shot up, but that's what you get when you commit armed robbery. He had every reason to think his life was in danger ... good on him.
At the same time, I'm not surprised at the grandma's comments. She's not a rational person like any of you reading about this in the newspaper or the internet. Of course she's going to put the blame on the guy who shot up her young grandson.
