I was sitting around the other day wondering what a Reflex sight would look like mounted on my Mossberg.... so I tried it. Cost me $7 to buy the weaver rail for my shotgun.

Another example of the sight being worth more than the weapon itself... not quite as grand as an M-4 with an ACOG though.

I like ghost rings on a shotgun --- have used them in a couple of "intense" shotgun classes with good results. Trijicon ghost rings, if you must --- in a low-light scenario with a shotgun I prefer a light.

Q: Why?

Seriously, I've always felt that in close quarters (i.e. home defense, <20 ft. range) even my 20-gauge A-5 would be PLENTY lethal. It's much quicker handling than my 12-gauge Benelli, cycles automatically, and would still leave a grapefruit-sized hole at close range.

Of course, the real question is whether or not I should ever shoot somebody for trying to steal my $75 stereo, my $50 TV, or the keys to my rusting El Camino. :D

Okay, threadjack over. Back to mil-spec shotgun talk.

Why? Because he can :)

It's not the matter of shooting them for stealing, it's the matter of shooting them for invading your house. If they are a threat, I'm not taking chances. Now, I don't live with a girlfriend anymore, just male roommates, but I would still protect their lives. IF the person displays any threat to my life or theirs... well...

And dude, El Caminos are CLASSIC.

Fine ... no argument here --- if you are more competent with a 20 guage, then that's what you should go with ... I always recommend it to women and those of smaller stature -- don't know if that is where you are coming from or not ...... ???

But the Benelli??? Sounds like you need more practice with it and need to spend some money and go to some tactical schools that offer shotgun-specific courses. If you don't (and most people fall into this category) then you don't know how to employ a shotgun in a tactical (i.e., home defense) scenario. It is a lot different in close quarters than a handgun --- different procedures apply.

And who cares about a TV? If someone breaks and enters my house --- I would employ whatever means necessary to stop the assault on me and mine --- it's got NOTHING to do with things material ...... but EVERYTHING to do with life and limb.

As usual, A4s nailed it right there. Who are you and why are you in my house? (even though I'm renting now) Thats why I love Texas: the make my day law.

And now Florida too!

As for why I did it... well... I moved my EOTech from my M1A Scout over to my M-4 so that I can <eventually> put an ACOG on the M1A. That leaves me with this Trijicon Reflex II with no home. It is a $425 sight that I haven't been able to offload, even at a substantial loss to myself... so why not spend the $7 for a rail on the shotgun and have something interesting.... that is the great part about customizing guns... I now have something that is somewhat unique in my little clique.
