Another Colorvision Thread (But with a few more questions inside)

Hi guys, long time 'lurker' first time posting.

Currently I'm working on my Private Pilot's License, and yesterday I received my third class medical with no restrictions. Here's the deal, I wasn't able to pass the Ishihara color vision exam. I was able to pass the Keystone Telebinocular (similar to the Ishihara test). I have taken the FALANT before and barely passed, I'm not sure if I'd be able to do it again.

Anyway, long story short - I can't consistently pass the colorvision tests approved by the Navy or Air Force. However, I can pass other tests that are approved by the FAA. Is there a way I can receive a waiver so I can commission in the Navy or Airforce (and potentially become a pilot)?

Also - can you go through ROTC and commission into a non-flight related rate in the USAF or USN if you are color deficient? (Specifically the intel community). Or does colorblindness automatically DQ you from commissioning period?

They're really strict about the color vision tests down here at PCola NAMI (where you go to get your first upchit)..I know a dude who got dq'd for colorblindness (he was never diagnosed with it before - he also passed all the tests prior to getting down here). There are no waivers granted for colorblindness for aviators.

I am not really sure you can be in the Navy in any field if you are red/green colorblind. Totally different story on the non-aviation side of the AF.

Can you elaborate on this a little more? Would it be possible to enter the USAF in the intel field without being able to pass their colorvision tests?

Anything but URL (unrestricted line) you can be colorblind, but if you add up all the numbers of non URL accessions and it is small when compared to URL.

You can be anything but unrestricted line and be an officer in the USN when colorblind, but the numbers of non URL billets are small when compared to URL billets.
