OCC 191 Select
:icon_rage

Those of you that know me know that I somewhat recently was pro rec'd but non final select for SNA. I am planning on reapplying once I relocate to D.C. in Aug. and meet up with some contacts in the service while working a government job.

Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to say IF YOU ARE SELECTED DON'T ***** OUT DURING OCS AND DOR!!!

I just spoke to a girl I know who has a much coveted intel. slot and is at OCS now. She had an infection and was in sick bay for 2 wks. and is supposed to reclass up with the next class on the 27th. However, she has decided to DOR (most likely). She said 4 others have this week (some SNAs). I get so angry that people don't think through what they want before they accept their OCS billet. I understand that sometimes **** happens but her response was "I am a square peg and the Navy is a round hole. It just doesn't fit for me." Think of this BEFORE you sign up. People such as myself that were pro rec'd and then destroyed when non select would do ANYTHING for that coveted billet.

I was recently accepted for Army OCS and declined b/c after talking with a COL I realized that the Navy is what is best for ME. I want it and am going to do whatever it takes to get there. Over and out. Sorry for the rant.

It is much better that they decide that they do not want it while they are still "CANDIDATES" instead of waiting until you are a commissioned officer. Having never been in the Navy yet, you yourself cannot honestly say that you are 100% positive that the Navy is the best fit for you. You may think it, but you have no experience with the REAL NAVY only what you think it is.

I understand that it is hard when you see people dropping (or as you see it, wasting a slot) when you are have not gotten one yet, but believe me it is for the best that they drop rather than make a divisions life hell because they do not really want to be there.

I am aware. I was simply ranting for the sake of ranting. I am going to work my govy job for a while, possibly retake the ASTB and reapply. Although, considering I was pro rec'd, they obviously liked my packet so I don't know what went wrong and they don't tell you anything which sucks.

E6286 - Go ahead an rant all you want to, I agree with you. I know too many people in NROTC that are going to or have recieved SNA slots who were complete soup sandwiches throughout school. There are already 2 of them who DORed from API. It just upsets me to think that I might miss out on a slot and it may be filled by some ass clown that joined the Navy 'cuz maverick is really cool'. Anyways, go ahead and rant man, I know I would be if I was in your shoes.

Just because you are pro-rec'ed, or whatever, doesnt mean you had the overall best package. It just means, from what Ive seen on this site, that you had good grades, ASTB, and LORs. What about height weight, PRT, EPSQ, and the physical. All are aspects that make your package. I know it sucks, but no need to rant on the internet about. Do everything you can to make your package better and dont whine about people who drop, thats not your problem, its theirs.

NuSnake, my package was complete. No EPSQ issues, perfect height and weight and physical. You just said it, good grades, LORs, and ASTB scores. That is what makes it difficult to better one's package when they don't know what is wrong with it. Also, it is a fact that 10 percent or less are pro rec'd and non selected. Therefore, I am just wondering what put me in that 10 percent. The Navy should give some sort of feedback. Its okay though, I am reapplying as we speak.

It really tied the room together.
just some food for thought ...
What if you also find that Navy is not for you? Don't set yourself up to make a bad decision - i.e. staying in when you want out so that you don't "waste" an SNA spot.
Don't get me wrong, I totally feel people should try their hardest to understand what the military lifestyle is like and what a 10 year commitment actually is before they accept any offer. You just can't anticipate everything.
I'm considering these very things as I await final select.

Thanks vette, this is my 3rd time though lol. I was denied BDCP three years ago, then pro rec'd SNA and non final select. Now I am going for it yet again although right now I hear things are tight.
