(I posted this in Naval Aviator's Forum because that is who I intended it for)
This story is not me *****ing, its just an interesting story.
So I'm a P-3 guy. Typically you start negotiating orders 1 year out from your Projected Rotation Date for your shore tour. I told my front office my priority was a flying billet, and being that flying billets are getting scarce, I'd go overseas.
Well, long story short I was told to start considering C-12s in Bahrain or Okinawa. Sounds good to me! That dried up, turned out there were no available slots for my fiscal quarter.
Roger that, how about T-34s? Nope, full up.
Okayyyyy....what about ANYTHING flying? No, but what we can do is send you to Diego Garcia as a Tactical Support Center Watch Officer for 11-12 months (not flying) followed by a gauranteed 2 years flying somewhere (probably T-34s or C-12s) once you are done.
So I acceptedv the billet. Resigned myself to theat fate, even started looking at BDU's for my desert dets. Started calculating tax free and perdiem for the year.
Picture it: a random Sunday night at a random dive bar about a month ago:
I get the call. "Hey, what about going to South America?"
"For what?"
"Personnel Exchange Program Pilot with the Chilean Navy, flying P-3As near Sanitago."
"I'll take it." (followed by multiple shots).
The moral of the story is.....
Hell I dunno, I'm going to South America, to fly, with 6 months of spanish beforehand at Defense Language Institute. :icon_smil
THERE IS A GOD.
