Just wanted to make everyone a little jealous by letting you know that this Saturday afternoon I'll be watching the Blue Angels in their first performance of the year. I figured that it's time to get my son properly indoctrinated and take him to his first airshow, so we'll be making the drive from San Diego to El Centro. I mean, what kind of father would I be if I let him get to 16 months old without seeing the Blue Angels?

Irony on that suubject...

last year I was bummed because the Blues weren't in my area at all, and the only time I did get to a show was Andrews and they were weather grounded. This season they'll be in my area FOUR TIMES! Willow Grove PA, Lakehurst NJ, Dover DE and Maryland: but guess where I'll be during that whole season! Lovely Pepsicola! I could catch the homecoming show if I'm still down there, but knowing my luck I'll be stashed back home at my recruiter station! Joy.

Ahh, why do you have to rub it in? I'd be going too if I didn't have duty on Saturday. Maybe I could get some unsuspecting soul to take my duty for me.

Well, I doubt I will still be in CONUS when the Blue Angels come back to Pcola on 13-14 July. At the rate my training is going, I should be out of here in late June, then off to SERE, oh joy! But, I can make the USAF Thunderbirds at the Patrick Air Force Base Air Show in Cocoa Beach, Florida, two weekends from now on the 24th of March.

Steve -- Good luck on finding someone to take your duty, a little green might smooth the way ... nah, that NEVER happens in the Navy!

Hey Dave, don't feel too bad, you'll get to see them every Wednesday. When you're out doing flutter kicks in the grass because someone messed up during drill, they'll be practicing overhead.

That's one good thing about OCS in sunny P-cola as a SNA, vs. some other boondock place back in the day. You constantly have traffic overhead to keep you motivated, so I've heard anyway, although the show season is starting so I don't know how much time they'll actually be spending in Pespi land.

BTW Jeff, how's your quest for an SNA designator going? My app's finally wrapped up, also, I'm taking you up on your offer and am gonna hit you with a nice little e-mail with about a hundred stupid OCS questions on it.

If you don't mind your "hundred stupid questions" being public domain and if Jeff doesn't mind the answers being equally public, I'm sure a lot of us here would stand to benefit from the gouge from someone who's "been there, done that". Thanks guys.

I'll be happy to answer any questions. My answers will be based on what was going on 16-18 months ago, but I think they'll still be fairly accurate. I assume there are also several other individuals who can provide different perspectives.

I too will be lucky enough to see the Blue Angels next weekend. If I'm not mistaken I think the Thunderbirds will be there as well.

As officers in the US military I highly encourage you all to go and ask for rides!! I've flown with the Blues 3 times the T-Birds once and the Snow birds twice (of course that one cost me a round of drinks). As aviators, you will eventually come to love going to, working in and even performing in airshows. ASK! ASK! ASK! The most enjoyable ones to ask are the Confederate Air Force bubbas. To date, I've flown a T-28, C-45, B-25. Those old coggers love taking military flying. By the way, if you can't get a ride, a good backup is always the Blues Fat Albert. Make a point to introduce yourself to the Marines at the club the Friday night after the practice show, Saturday afternoon you'll be hungover in the back of Fats enjoying your first JATO shot(Jet Assisted Takeoff). Foreign military love taking people flying especially the Limeys. An insult will get you along way with the Canadians, English and the Aussies. An insult like "I've heard you people aren't very good pilots?" That definitely boils there blood and they really want to show you. Enjoy your careers and the experiences only the brotherhood of arms can show you!

We were at Dover in '01...brought a BT-13 Vultee Vibrator and Stinson L-5 for the show. Dover was an excellent time...great show! Missed Willow Grove because I was sick as the proverbial dog. If you were there, you might've seen an old taildragger with a red cowl marked S127 - that was us. Chocked beside a gorgeous P-51 Mustang. Oh, the pain.

Eight-year-olds, Dude.
The Blues cancelled their Fleet Week appearance in San Francisco. I almost cried as I read that in the papers in the middle of my English class.
