Academy Grad gets ring back

A local Coin shop owner bought a collection of rings and one of them was a '69 class ring, he managed to track down the owner who ended up being a Retired Capt living in MD. He is going to hand deliver it later this month.

Kudos for that guy!

I had a similar incident with my ring, but it didnt take me 20+ years to get it back, I lost it during a rough "outing" in Puerto Rico, one of our own chiefs found it in the water near the chief's club while fishing, about a month later. Needless to say he and his friends were well compensated.

There's surprisingly a lot of similar lost ring stories where the owners managed to get them back, however I'm sure there's many more where the ending isn't so great.

I lost mine in a murky swimming pool during a post-CQ bash. There were nip bottles of tequila and vodka tied onto balloons floating around the pool that you could grab and consume....so we did...(hic).

Everyone (including dates) ended up getting tossed into the pool before the night was done.

I woke up the next morning without my ring....went back the next day and there it was at the bottom of the deep end.

... :)

My biggest hobby is metal-detecting/treasure-hunting, and over the years I have found several class rings. In each case I researched the internet, to try and locate the owner. In three of those cases, I was successful, and returned the ring, free of charge.

I've a classmate whose ring is sitting on the bottom of the Caribbean Sea just north o San Juan. Moral of the story: don't dive with a $1500 hunk of gold on your finger.

My former roommate, while not an Academy guy, had had his class ring stolen years ago. Some random weekend while in flight school, he was surfing the Web and happened to find it listed on Ebay.

I don't wear mine particularly often, but I definitely don't wear it going out to the bars or casinos. Too valuable to lose and/or have to pawn off ;)
