17-round mags for SIG P226R

Hey all,

I was searching your everyday friendly Top Gun Supply when I came across these magazines for the SIG P226.

http://www.topgunsupply.com/P226-9mm-c-227.html

Apparently these are the same size as the normal 15-round magazines, but they hold 2 more rounds. Also, they are made by Mec-Gar, which makes magazines for SIG anyway; most new SIGs come with Mec-Gar magazines so it's not like it's a cheap market clone. Having an 18-round capacity without any protrusion from the grip would be sweet, but it seems like it's too good to be true.

Any of you P226 owners, have you any experience with these magazines? Are they durable? Are they worth it? Will they foul up in sand or clogging?

P.S. Incidentally, they also make 15 round magazines for the P228/M11 pistol, which has a standard 13 round capacity. Nice considering most aviators are being issued M11s.

I have a P229, but I can use the P226 15 round magazine, although it protrudes out of the bottom of the magazine well. Works fine, so I'd think this would work for P226 owners.

Try 'em -- see what you think.

I've never been too impressed w/ Mec-Gar magazines. I think I've had more failures to feed over the years with that particular brand than all others combined.

Two more rounds is not an issue w/ me in a hi-cap pistol. 12,13,14, or 15 rounds + magazine reloads should be plenty...... otherwise, you're in a heap of trouble w/or without 2 more rounds. I don't even "top off" the magazine after chambering one round for condition 1 carry.

Which weapon did you use the MecGar mags on? SIGArms gave me five of them when I got my 226, and they hadn't been a problem at all.

If so ... off the top of my head .... Colt (especially Colt), Browning, SIG, and Walther (oh yeah, especially Walther, too) ... I think it kinda depends on who/what/where they were made -- the ones I USED to use seemed to come from Italy ... ??? :)

Yes, I have experience with them. Sig just started offering up the Super Capacity Tactical Magazines (SCT) from their P226/9R SCT for sale separately. They're a steal of a deal at $39 compared to like $70 for some "x mag" extra capacity mag I've heard people talk about. I have 2 SCT mags for my 229 and they work outstanding, even though they're only 14 rds for 40/357.

Minor threadjack . . . do these protrude below the grip, or have they figured some way to squeeze out more room in the mag itself?

/Also an owner of a .40/357 P229 . . .

I have one of the 17-round Mec-Gar mags for my 226. I have never had an issue at with either the weapon or the magazine.
