I'd make sure he's relatively recently retired and a operational flag. The key to LOR's and interviewer assessment is name recognition. 0-5's are a minimum. 0-6's are good. 0-7's are better. Operational is better. Good luck.

As stated before, the VP hot-ticket JO jobs were Pilot/NFO training and NATOPS. Mission Commander a must, Instructor Pilot/Tacco a must. Very few JO jobs are a waste, you are always being observed. In VP, the senior JO's are just as important in determining your future as the HODs.
