    Flying Jets and Height Restrictions

I'm 6'4" and I fly jets. I also have long legs. Quit stressing about it. If you have anything else to say/ask about this subject, do it in the anthro mega thread. http://http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14427&highlight=tall+jets

    What would you do????

Go be with your grandmother and tell her how much she inspired you to work hard, never quit, and achieve your maximum potential. Whether you got accepted or not is immaterial to the qualities that she has passed on to you. Sorry to hear about her situation. I'm sure that she's proud of you...

    Marine to Sailor?

^^ What he said. Plus, your OCS time won't mean squat to the navy. You can either reapply before you get commissioned and go to navy OCS, or get commissioned and go throught the painful dick-dance of interservice transfer. It's up to you. Good luck.

Questions concerning OCS and flight contracts

I know 1 USMC aviator, and have met two others (1 USN and 1 USAF) who were prior Warrants in the Army flight program. All 3 were Army Cobra guys (now AV-8B, FA-18, and F-16 respectively). It can be done. Not sure on the age issue, but waivers are possible. I'll try to find my buddy (if he's...

    PAR approaches?

Upon further review, I do NOT own any of these things. MACS-1 is supposed to. They say they don't have any, but might know where they can get their hands on one. It'll "be a big redass to set up and certify" (according to Puff), but they're looking into it. What a piece of crap.

    The Great Growler Gallery

Thus confirming what I've long suspected. As far as Electronic Attack pilots go, the Growler pilots will be great fighter pilots. That's not meant to be a zinger.......it's just that I suspect that future EA guys will spend an inordinate amount of time working intercept timelines and doing...

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

Actually, the 31st MEU never technically lost their Harriers. The East/West coast MEUs were gapped, but the 31st had them available, they just were not attached. This was during the 99/00 redstripe.

    PAR approaches?

    1) Fuck you. I have tried to use it in the fleet, but it didn't work then either. In this case I highly suspect operator error. 2) As luck would have it, I am currently looking into the feasibility of providing these highly valuable services to 513 next month. I asked our EAF guys where our...

    Motivational Statement MEGA Thread

Lose the "E-4" and "E-5" business. They know what a Corporal and Sergeant is. Other than that, it looks pretty good. You might want to go a little heavier into your motivation and thought process, and a little less into your resume. They should have all of that stuff from your package. As I...

TVC (the Brits call it VIFFing), works to one degree or another, but like HeyJoe said, it's a "big city move" that had better work. You are selling the farm when you do it. If you don't get a valid shot out of it right away, you're fooked.

    PAR approaches?

And actually fly what they tell you to fly. Then debrief them after the pass, if able. A lot of guys shoot practice PARs VMC and either consiously, or subconsiously visually line themselves up on the runway. The controller gets no training out of it and thinks that he's got it wired, when in...

How does one change their username?

Please be sure to mention this to your OSO. You get extra points on your package if you've already applied to another service and been rejected. The recruiter gets a bonus for every applicant that he "steals" from other services, so this will expedite you package and get you accepted for sure...

    WCAP? Marine equivalent?

Keep pressing for both, in the order that they matter to you. If you make the team, you can bring it up to your chain of command for help. The Marine Corps loves good PR for stuff like this. I can honestly see them supporting you on this, but no promises at this point. Just keep your priorities...

Very few spots, and many people want it. From what I know (several associates that have done it/looked into it seriously) you basically have to know somebody. One of my Captains wants to do this next tour, and I think he has a shot because he's a prior enlisted MSG. We'll see. Don't bank...

    Tattoo questions

I seriously doubt this is true. Tats won't help your situation, but aside from the published regulations already out about tattoos (sleeves, gang/obscene stuff, etc) , it's not an "instant DQ". Technically, officer tattoos are not treated differently. Realistically, they are frowned upon...

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

We do it during training to some extent, it just hasn't been used in combat by the USMC. Then again, we've done ZERO A/A in combat in the USMC Harrier world anyway, so it's kind of a moo point.
  25. Harrier Dude

    A-10's For The Marine Corps

Yes. They have to muff wrap th GSOV to make sure it won't leak. It's a pretty quick run, but they sometimes combine it with a 60 hour vibe run to get more bang for the buck. You don't have to do the run when putting the strakes back on.

Any maintenance/modification to the Harrier is a giant red-ass. I get your point, though. It takes about a half a shift to get the gunpack removed, but about 2 shifts to put it on, depending on how long it takes you to get it high powered. The gun has 300 rds (25mm), and with the new...

    A-10's For The Marine Corps

How, exactly, does having two engines matter to the guy on the ground? That only matters if you get hit. The key is not to get hit. It's not integrated into their system, but does work like ours did 7 years ago. Much mo' better integrated. Still not relative targeting capable. See above...

Aside from the "good side" of some of these B billets (fun, see the world, etc), there are serious career implications. Having a sucessful tour on any B billet (MSG, DI, or recruiting) is important, almost mandatory, for making Gunnery Sergeant. And I agree with you about MSG. From the...

    Armed Robbery at Camp Pendleton

What deterrs people from robbing stores on base is that they lock the base down and you're basically trapped. Plus, even unarmed, the average patron in those stores is more likely to kick your ass than out in town. Some numbnuts tried to rob the bank on MCAS Yuma many years ago. He walked in...

F-15Es can carry an ass ton of ordnance, lots of gas, and employ JDAM with relative targeting. Good piece of gear. If they have an employment problem in terms of CAS, it's probably a training problem, not a capabilities one. Like many others, perhaps they should spend more time in the A/G...

The A-10s will be around a little while longer, but they are scheduled to be replaced by the CTOL version of the F-35. There was some talk about the USAF getting a number of STOVL variants as well, but I think that died off. AC-130s are money in a no threat environment like Iraq. Bump up the...

^^^What he said. Would it be cool? Yes. The only viable way for us to do it would be to take them as-is and be constantly land based, like our F-18D's and Prowlers. While cool and very capable (especially in this narrow set of current circumstances in Iraq), it's still an old aircraft...
