    technical degrees

Alright, I'm going to lay ALL of the academics out for you. NROTC (Scholarhip Mids) requires midshipmen to take 2 sems of calc based physics, 2 sems of calc, 2 semesters of english (or some equivalent at your respective school, for example, english 103 at purdue counts for english 101 and 102)...

I think for calc and physics you have to get at least a D (at least at my unit). But rememeber you have to make a good GPA, so I'd go for at least a C in those subjects.

    technical degrees

PhatPharmer, If you plan on being a scholarship student, you will be REQUIRED to take calculus AND physics anyways. I'd plan on including them in your plan of study. I am a political science major and had to take a year of technical calculus and I am working on my YEAR of calculus based...

PRK waiver b/t Cruise, Serv. Sel., and Comm.

FSUMIDN, I am a 3/c NOW and will be taking my 2/c cruise this summer. I originally planned on doing over Christmas break of my Junior year. Will this cause problems with my 1/c aviation cruise? Nozeman

    technical degrees

Going from my memory, the portion of the selection process that deals with your major goes as follows. Your major matters for about 7% (don't hold me to that) of your total points. The points for this part are distributed based on the type of degree you have. Engineering gets 100% of the...

PRK waiver b/t Cruise, Serv. Sel., and Comm.

Currently I am in my 3rd class year. I want to get PRK done, any suggestions as to when it would be best to have it done? Thanks. Nozeman

    technical degrees

Yeah, they'd all be considered as technical degrees. In the grand scheme of things though, the technical degrees don't really get you ahead as far as getting picked up for pilot goes. Your degree doesn't really matter in NROTC. Noze

    NROTC Midshipmen Past or Present

Austin, It was all in good fun, I thought it was pretty clever, actually. I forgot to mention this before, but Purdue NROTC has the reputation of commissioning a lot of our mids into the the SNA/SNFO pipeline (more so than other schools). I'm not exactly sure why this is, but apparently we...

    USNA vs.NROTC vs.USCGA

I am also currently an NROTC Midshipman. When I was in high school going through the same process, I was torn between attending the Academy and going the NROTC route. I found out in September of my senior year that I could sign for the NROTC scholarship early, I could not have made a better...

    Getting in

I don't know if there is a required GPA to get into the unit. But I do know that if you desire to get on college program advanced standing (in order to get a commission), your GPA should be better than a 2.0....

    NROTC Midshipmen Past or Present

My advice would be to first find a college that you want to go to that is a decent distance from your home. Pick by school first, worry about the NROTC after that. But go to Purdue!!!!

    Miramar to Close.

Like Crowbar suggested, what about North Island? I know that within the next few years, the Navy will be phasing out it's S-3 squadrons, half of which are based at North Island. That would make a lot of room for the Hornets that are at Miramar. Don't know if they'd have room for all of the...

    NROTC ID CARDS

Dickwest, I was just speaking from what happens in my unit. I didn't know about the alternate type of ID. I guess its not the type that you'd go flashing around. Nozeman

    NROTC ID CARDS

You wont get an ID until you are on advanced stading. You wont be on advanced standing until you're selected for it, probably at the end of your sophomore year before junior year. Don't plan on getting and ID until you get scholarship or advanced standing.

When are the S-3's going away?

Hey all, Just curious, how much longer does the Navy plan on keeping the S-3's around? It seems to me that they are a fairly important platform with no replacement....Anyone know how much longer theyre gonna train people to fly the S-3's? Noze PS I spent a week this summer with VS-41...

    NROTC Midshipmen Past or Present

BYPASS If you want to go to a regular college and do NROTC, make you sure join a regular NROTC unit. Trust me, I thought that all the structure of an academy etc would be great...but I've seen the other side of life...and it is good. I HIGHLY reccommend going a normal college route. Just...

    Aerospace Engineering degree

You dont need an engineering degree to be a pilot. The XO at my NROTC unit gave us a brief on getting in to flight school. He showed us the breakdown on how they weigh your major and GPA...needless to say, it's not very worthwhile to get an aero degree if you want to be a pilot. If...

They should let you know sometime before APR. I'm not sure of the deadline exactly because my scholarship package never went to the review boards, I signed for it in September of my senior year. But yes, they will tell you no matter what happens. My friend who is a Marine option up for...

    NROTC Midshipmen Past or Present

Bigspy, I hail from Purdue University NROTC. I would highly recommend our unit; we're a faily locked on group of individuals (just under 200). We may be one of the biggest units in the country. Currently the unit is undergoing lots of changes: mandatory study went away and so did PT. PT...

Is The Civil Air Patrol still worth it?

Jreb, To answer your original question about whether or not CAP helps you with NROTC. I can tell you from my experience that there is a "bubble" for CAP on the NROTC Scholarship application. I'm not sure what it's worth as far as the scholarship goes, but its right next to the Boy Scouts...

    NROTC

CTT, NROTC is another of the Navy's commissioning programs. What NROTC Midshipmen do is we take a 3 hour class every semester that is Navy related and we also take a drill period (2 hours each week). In addition to all of this, we are organized into companies and platoons and do a lot of...

    NFO vs. Aviator

reapergm, PRK has been allowed for Mids for some time now (at least for NROTC). The academy mids have been allowed PRK for at leasat 4 years I believe. For NROTC, they just changed the rules so I can get my eyes fixed (paying for it myself) and not have to go on Medical LOA. In the past...

    Intel after NROTC?

Mossad, I am in NROTC right now...and we can only commission people into the unrestricted line (Aviation, SWO, Subs, and SEALs). It has been explained to us that one has to do a tour in the unrestricted line, and then lateral transfer into Intel. For example, someone would go to the surface...
