Happy Independence Day!

In other news, we fucking called it over a year ago. You can’t fix stupid:

The government has subpoenaed several New York Times reporters who wrote that security concerns were the reason old VC-25A was used over the 'bridge' VC-25B when the President departed Turkey.

More than one pilot has died in vain while trying to look good for the cameras.

I get it. I am a field grade O and a drone guy now, so maybe I'm just a grandpa yelling at clouds. But to me there is nothing cool about this. It was dumb. Be a professional, stick to the script and follow the rules.

Don't take stupid risks to look cool. We can't replace you or your airplane when you fuck it away.

That looked fine to me.
Let’s trust the process and let ‘em investigate. In Naval Aviation we are professionals, and professionals hold one another accountable if need be. This pass could be a genuine mistake made by one person or something else entirely. There is just no way to know right now. I am thankful everyone is safe and genuinely look forward to learning the rest of the story in due time.

Traditionally, I'd agree with you. However, "trust the process" is exactly what gets broken when undue influence is exerted by SECDEF or someone else high up the chain of command.

SECDEF has a job to do, and it's not interfering in command investigation of SOP violations because they looked cool to Kid Rock, etc. What Pete is doing is bad for flight discipline. It's not being an old man yelling at clouds to expect the SOP to be upheld. I have at least two friends who are no longer with us because they tried to look cool and messed up.

Let’s trust the process

The process worked...

A Defense official appeared to comment on the incident Thursday. Sean Parnell, assistant to the Defense Secretary, said, "CARRY ON PATRIOTS," as he posted a picture on social media of what appeared to be the flyover.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth tweeted Thursday morning, in an apparent reference to the Blue Angels incident, "The flyovers will continue until morale improves."

That was a v-e-r-y low flyover.

The words…

No one from the Blue Angels flight demonstration team will be reprimanded or face punishment after Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao said there was “no problem” with a low-altitude pass made Wednesday above Pensacola Beach, Fla.

“Flight debrief complete. No reprimands. No firings. No problem. That’s the sound of Freedom! Semper fi and Hooyah,” Cao said Thursday in a post shared to social media platform X alongside a three-second video of the flight.

Man, I missed my time for doing stupid aviation things.

Cool, aerodynamics thing, the wing tip vortices off of each wing influence each other, forming a vortex pair, and driving the pair perpendicular to the flight path, downward from the plane, which in this case means outward. The plane didn’t have to fly over them for the effect to be felt. The plane basically “tossed“ it’s vortices.
