Which watch?

Anyone have any intel on this watch and the company. Seems like a very nice watch for the price point. Thanks !

I disagree. It's overpriced for the movement inside (Ronda 5040 or similar). Should be in the $300-600 range, not $900+. If they're having a 50% off sale, you could argue fair market value. As I've said before, if boosting a business within the naval aviation community is important to you and worth the premium, go for it. Just don't convince yourself you're getting a good deal. I'm a huge fan of homegrown businesses from within our ranks (saw them at Tailhook this year- awesome!), DePol watches just do nothing for me.

$1000 is more than I'd pay for a quartz watch.

Depends on the watch. I paid more for my X-33, but it's a thermo-stabilized quartz that can hold a time hack +/- 2 seconds for an entire deployment, and it has features you literally can't find on any other watch. It's not for everyone. But you won't see me saying I got a good deal on it.;)

Got to thinking about where I was about 30 years ago. I bought a OD green timex at the Ft. Benning PX. Took off the strap and replaced it with a velcro arm band that had a flap that could cover the watch face. It also had the benifit of making about the same amount of noise in the middle of a night patrol as a grenade exploding.
You chose wisely, me, not so much.

Did your Timex look like either of the ones pictured below? The one on the left is a hand wind mechanical movement [non-serviceable] and the one on the right is a quartz movement. I purchased both of them at the NASNI NEX about 27 to 28 years ago...

Also, I currently use a velcro band with a protective flap [Rothco brand and Raine Inc. brand]...yes, they are loud like you described...the Rothco is pictured below...

agreed. I think I paid $850 for my X-33 and I agree the uniqueness of the watch because of the personal engraving and the fact that the watch is usually only sold to military aviators makes the higher price tag for a quartz watch worth it. I also don't know much about the various quartz movements but I wouldn't be surprised to see that Omega has a better quartz movement (sounds like it from your accuracy statement).

Much like their mechanical counterparts, all quartz movements are not created equal. A lot of so-called "watch people" turn up their noses as soon as they hear the term quartz. However, quality quartz movements can employ some really ingenious methods to maximize battery life and accuracy. Here is some info if you're interested:

1.) X-33 Movement (original)

2.) X-33 "Skywalker" movement (Post-2014 version)

3.) Article covering the basics on accurizing a quartz watch (source: A Blog to Watch) - Scroll 1/3 of the way down to "1970: Ultra High Accuracy Quartz" for the part on high-accuracy quartz for some basics.

4.) An in-depth post on quartz movements from an actual watchmaker (source: Omega Forums)

 That price sure has gone up since this past April when I bought my X-33. I think Omega's MRSP was under $5K when I bought mine. Not 100% sure, since I haven't paid full price for any of my watches.

The one on the left is the one model that I had. I am going to try and find it when I get home, I think I still have it. If not, I want to get another one for old times sake.

Outer box? Why aren’t boxes on a special display shelf with display lighting and lunar rover model?

The outer box is currently protecting the outer sleeve. You're getting me the lunar rover model for Christmas. :D
