How much choice should aircraft type take into account? I'm interested in Piedmont because of nice base locations. They fly mostly Dash-8s though. Is that going to put me at a disadvantage applying to a major? Turboprop vs Turbofan?

PDT just had their first all jet class earlier this month. The Dash's days are numbered there. Checkout the "PDT news and rumors" thread on APC for the latest transition timeline they're putting out, but you should be a jet guy in relatively short order if you're in a Dash class to start.

Means absolutely nothing to hiring folks at the majors. Regional airliners are regional airliners.

I would not choose a regional job based on the airplane. As I said in a previous post, the only sorta-difference is that the 76-seaters are generally scheduled on longer legs, so you may fly fewer legs per day, which will impact how hard you work and your quality of life.
