What rates does my degree gel with?

I’m curious—does it matter that I’ve worked in the medical field since I was 17? My working experience includes geriatric care in a home, and I currently do medical admin in a dermatology office. For about two years now.

I don’t feel I’d want to become anything more than a PA if I pursued that..and I think there’s a program to apply to where they pay your way? And commission on completition? Correct me if im wrong.

I’m leaning more toward medical admin, but you’re right, that still requires a masters. Will they wave it based on work experience? Seems like a stretch.

If you meet the other requirements and the experience is directly able to correlate to the position in the USN then it could help, but if it doesn't you may have well just been flipping burgers.

There are many things in the civilian medical side that doesn't correlate directly to what people think, for example many things a nurse does in civilian land is done by a corpsman in the USN.

I mean essentially I’m medical admin now. I have a good chunk of credits done for pre-med though. I switched over about halfway through my degree to Health Sciences.

No matter what if I try and go medical I’m going to need to do more schooling in some capacity

Also, you may just need to look in the mirror and figure out what you want to do with your life. If you want to fly helos off big gray floaty things, no one will care what past experiences or degrees you have, and you'll start from scratch (ASTB and OCS) like everyone else.
What he said. For the majority of Navy jobs, nobody cares too much about what your undergrad degree was in, other than some of the more technical designators, and even those are usually waiverable. You have to be trained extensively no matter what, so it's more a question of whether or not you have academic aptitude to be trainable.

If you are really dead set on Medical oriented fields in Federal service, I'd also hope you're looking beyond just the Navy or DOD, and at agencies like USPHS.

Checking my programs accreditation as I type this. Thanks much

Alright, what’s the deal with SWOs. Curious now

Have you ever met lots of early-mid 20s travel-minded people who went to half the tourist destinations in Europe and East Asia by direct consequence of their tours yet hated almost every minute of their lives? Have you ever found yourself unexpectedly becoming a therapist for said people? Have you been told more horror stories and complaints from said people than, say, from refugees who have had family members brutalized and eviscerated by jihadis and were at high risk of being killed themselves? Did you go to a university with an NROTC program and heard the ghastly lamentations of midshipmen who got slotted in for SWO (at least the ones who had an idea what that entailed)?

Anyways, you'd probably have more luck getting a good answer about SWO life on other boards like sailorbob.com where there's lots of SWOs. But just a rule of thumb I'm sure you know: Before getting into something, ensure you know what you're getting into (in any facet of life).

Ever heard of Google? Be a lot cooler if you did - especially if you want to be a Naval Officer.

Lol I meant it seems there’s a lot of whispering about the feelings regarding the job. I was curious why. Not the actual job detail. Clearly that’s not subjective.

But thanks...

Not curious about “SWO life” regarding job detail, but generally why people seem to think/feel it’s something of a negative experience—and why that took over my post since so many people brought it up. But it’s cool...I’ll google that too.

Well, to be honest, this is an AVIATION website. Why would we talk about driving ships, when we could be talking about NAVAL AVIATION?

Aren’t you going to be in SWODom whilst doing EDO things?

For anyone in the future who would like a direct answer regarding personal experience as a SWO lol. Jfc

Take caution with reddit. The problem with reddit is many people are shy to post "negative" opinions regarding subjective matters because it means downvotes. The site generally works on a mob mentality. Honestly, if I never heard anything about the SWO experience, I'd think being a SWO was the best job ever from that thread because they make it sound a lot better than my civilian job for sure, and part of me doubts that.

By "SWO-dom" do you mean time underway (as EDOs aren't SWOs)? This is kind of getting off-topic so I'll DM you.
