What NRC considers competitive

This is a great thread! Here's me:

Recently took the OAR, but I'm unsure how it affects my chances of selection, so I'd appreciate any insights you all can give.

1st Choice Intel, 2nd SWO.
  • GPA: 3.9 (M.A. Political Science)
  • OAR: 56
  • Age: 23
  • LORs/Interviews: USAF O-6 (Intel), USN O-6 (Intel), USMC O-6 / USN O-6 (Intel)
Strongly considering re-taking the OAR to improve my chances.

Any thoughts on where I stand, as-is?
Better stats than me homie, good luck!

Age:27( prior enlisted)
GPA: 3.28( sociology)
Oar:41
AQR:3
PFAR:3
FOFAR:4

First choice is SA, NFO and last, SWO.

I tooked it today, I know the scores are bad. Planning to retake the test after 31 days of course.

you know you aren't qualified at this point for any of those right?

I understand my scores are fairly low along with my GPA. Based on the information here, I should strive for 50+ at the very least. While I do understand that is the case, can you elaborate a little more on why I am not qualified at all sir? I do apologize if I am missing something that will led me that same conclusion, I just have the understand that while even if an OAR score is low, I can still submit my package. I would just have a very low chance on being selected. Thank you for any feedback.

Minimum AQR for aviation is 4, minimum PFAR and FOFAR is 5
Minimum OAR for SWO is 45

50+ on the OAR and at least 6s on the ASTB are what you need to strive for.

Use this as reference to SWO qualifications for OCS. A few things have been updated for prior-service applicants. Your profile however, says that you are 37. Your age alone will disqualify you for all three, even being a prior.

I apologize about that, my age is actually 27. I'll have to fix that. Based on the reference, myself being prior with my most recent eval being an EP. I believe the 41 would fit the criteria but that being based on the minimum of 40 just for SWO. I'll just have to hit the books harder, I still want a higher oar and astb score to have a better chance overall. Thank you again for all the feedback.

Advice needed... So before I share my scores on the ASTB, I'd like to share that I am currently E-5/AD2 applying for STA-21 program for 1) Pilot, 2) NFO, or 3) Core. (in that ranking) My Evals for the past 3 years have been EP's, from E-4 to E-5. I have 250 hours volunteer, 69 credits towards a Bachelor's degree, and 53 credits towards an associate's. (should have AA after my next two classes, both degrees towards the Science of Aeronautics) Hold a 3.1 gpa. Have taken many Command Collateral duties, and was recently selected as the Junior Sailor of the Year in my command. Now here are my ASTB scores:
OAR: 39
AQR: 5
PFAR: 7
FOPAR: 6

Now, I know my OAR is lower than what I've read to be considered competitive, but it is passing... So I've been told to just submit my package as is, because the Board will look at the overall package and recommendations. I've spoken with officers in my command and people I know that have been selected for the program, and most say Im sitting pretty well. But should I retake it? It was my first attempt and have 2 remaining. What do you think my chances are to be selected if I leave it as is?

I have no idea for STA-21. My first/only attempt is 39 4/6/5 for OCS. There’s another with a 38 that is classed up now. Perhaps I had a strong kit, idk. However, I was prepared for a retake. I would say apply with what you have. Others will say to retake so you don’t have to deal with having to wait another year. If you are selected, good. If not, good, more time to retake and get better. Hopefully you get accepted for STA-21, before you finish your degree and have to go with OCS. Best of luck!

Thank you! Your feed back puts my mind at ease a bit.

I have actually noticed quite a few AD applicants being selected with lower than norm OAR scores within the last year. Many of the communities have updated their PAs to reflect a lower minimum OAR, lower minimum GPA, and higher age limit for AD applicants. I imagine this is representative of anticipated higher quotas across the communities.
