What NRC considers competitive

You should check out other selection board threads and compare to yours. A high ASTB score usually overlaps a lacking gpa.

I'm applying for a pilot slot; I was hoping ASTB > GPA. I'm a graduating senior with a 2.9 GPA, a 58/6/6/8, significant leadership experience, and a lengthy recommendation from an Admiral. The GPA is obviously the flawed aspect of my application, so I'm hoping my ASTB score will carry more weight than my GPA.

On your profile it says you're 35. Is that a typo?

I am 25 and applying to become a pilot- I graduated from the Citadel with a 3.3. I am in my final year of law school. I have already taken the astb: 59/7/6/7. I am worried that the PFAR 6 is too low but i am happy with everything else. Should I retake or is this competitive enough to throw in the ring

It all comes down to if you feel comfortable with it. I had a 56 6/5/5 my first time and people said I was fine, but I felt like I needed to do better so I retook it. An NROTC aviation officer told me that it's a gamble to retest always, but from his experience he has never seen anyone do worse the second time around. If SNA is all you want then I would want to improve that score personally. Now you know what to expect with the joystick and UAV portions so you can prepare yourself. My PFAR went from a 5 to 8.

Yea but if I don’t do better thats it. This is my only window. I am about to turn 26 so if i get in on these next boards I am fine but If I don’t I will be too old by the time OCS ends. I would definitely take it again if I had more time. I feel like my scores are definitely competitive just not a lock.

Understood. Well those scores are above the minimum so I would say that you're "good enough". Higher scores are always better, but people with your GPA and scores seem to be picked up so I'd say that since time is an issue you should be good to go.

Hello. I took the OAR and got a 54. I've seen some numbers floating regarding the max score you could get for OAR (I read 67) vs ASTB (80) I don't know if that's accurate? Also I don't know if my score is competitive or if I should retake.

Aspirations:
USN Active Duty Intel Officer (1st choice) , Public Affairs Officer (2nd)

A bit about me:
31 years old. I just was told that I don't qualify for Supply or SWO. Know of other jobs that do not have an age limit?
USNR - 4 years - Hospital Corpsman, do a lot of collateral duties and Funeral Honor Details
Bachelors Psych UCLA, GPA 2.9 (not my proudest moment - my dad got really sick - not an excuse but I will address it on my statement)
Getting my Masters - Homeland Security - Public Health Prep concentration at Penn State, GPA 4.0
Volunteer for Team Rubicon
Work in Emergency Management for a Power Grid - so we do cyber security, natural disaster response etc
Recommendations from an Army Colonel, Navy Captains, Navy Commanders, LCDRs and my manager and department director for my civilian job. (thinking 8 recs in all)

Any suggestions on how to make myself a better applicant? Opinions etc.

This forum was super useful to me in terms of what to expect and study guides and I wish I had found it sooner than a week before my OAR.

Thanks everyone!

The Information Warfare Community is about it, try for IW and Intel, I wouldn't try for PAO depending on what they are doing at the time they either are taking only AD or pick almost exclusively those that are or have been MC's

Im worried about my ASTB scores as the test was not quiet what I expected. I am moving forward with my application as it stands but I will more likely than not, try the ASTB again after my 90 day cool down. Thoughts or guidance is appreciated.
