Greetings from Oshkosh!
Had an outstanding experience. Short version - just go. Ideally 2 days, camp overnight with your aircraft. Its "bucket list" kind of fun.
So a few pics to share - did IFR at 10K up the east side of Lake Michigan and ended up canceling IFR halfway across the lake because of IFR flow restrictions. Departure was much easier - SE over teh lake from KOSH and south under ORD Class B and then home. 7.0 block time round trip in a C182 with /G equipment.
Arrival was harrowing but fun - thank god for ADS-B
Had to fly evasive form against a NORDO Ford Tri Motor trying to occupy the same landing slot that I was assigned - GREEN SQUARE. Full flaps, forward slip at 60 kts..
Dynamic taxi!
Fill out the fuel chit!
Phew! Parked, all secure!
More T-34B's than I could count - literally HUNDREDS parked in a row....
@Jim123 will appreciate this - the very FIRST T-34C - a YT-34C used by NAVAIR and Beech in the development of T-34C production - a one of a kind civilian aircraft.
Hanging out with the Airbus Helo guys
The Airbus Helicopter demo pilot is also a Speedy fan - so after recognizing my impeccable taste in Speedy Moon watches @mad dog . a wrist shot was in order!
The only thing remotely associated with Naval Aviation at Oshkosh was this NASA S-3 - flown by a cool former Navy dude.
This of course is what Oshkosh is all about
A Cessna caravan on display with sensor and Weapon hardpoints, developed for local Air Forces down range
2019 Cessna 172S 180 HP trainer - Cessna can't keep up with demand - only $420K delivered -
Oh and only a single seat in back for student observer
Again, about the only Navy aircraft to be seen...
Strangly a 757 at KOSH - I made this fucker wait on me -
Departure time - all procedures zip lip
Down the ORD shore at sunset
Almost home!
Seriously though - HUGE AF, Army, and US Gov't aircraft presence - (e.g. CBP, Dept of Interior, etc) - NOT A SINGLE NAVY OR MARINE aircraft. Thats unsat.
Anyways, experience of a lifetime - going back next year!
ChuckMK23 OUT!
