"The Modular Handgun System will be purchased to replace the legacy M9, M9A1, M45A1, and M007 pistols with a more affordable and efficient pistol for maintenance. The MHS also provides modularity and greater shooter ergonomics over the current models which will allow for more accurate fire for military personnel of different sizes."

Progress. New toys!

Makes sense.

I wish I were around, in uniform, for this transition. I went from 1911A1’s (nice) to M9 (pile o’ poo) and feel kind of sad that the M9 outlasted me.

Anyone see one in service yet?
I’ve seen an M17 in service . . . in my hands at the range. :)

It’s a wonderfully ergonomic pistol that’s just fun to shoot. DOD got it right kicking that ridiculous boat anchor of an M9 to the curb; the M17 is in a totally different league than that damned piece of FOD.
