Anyone know if something like Darn Tough socks are allowed for PT or in NWUs? They have funky design patterns and have the little logo on the top of the back of the sock. I'm thinking of getting some more pairs for hiking and running. The difference between doing a 12 mile hike ending up with [a couple minor] toe blisters and a 15+ mile hike in perfect condition is incredible.

I've come across a fair number of SWOs who have done a tour with DESRON 60. Frankly they did not shut up boasting about all the world-famous tourist destinations they got to go to that no one else from their hometowns have ever been to, even far inland land-locked places like Prague. Initially, it sounded about as good as a deal as you can get in the military? But they also didn't shut up about how miserable SWO life was even cruising around the Mediterranean/Europe, so maybe not so good at least as a SWO.

In PT gear, white or black socks with no logos. If you're wearing socks longer than your ankle pull them all the way up. No scrunched down socks and tuck in those laces!

I'm transitioning into SELRES after almost five years away from active duty and have no experience with the NWU Type 3s. Can I get some gouge on what are comfortable boots to buy? Didn't really have options with the blueberries, although that didn't stop me from wearing unauthorised boots.

You can wear your old black boots, rough out or polished leather, however neither one is comfortable. Try the Rocky S2Vs, haven't heard any complaints about them.

Either of the two coyote boots are comfortable. I have steel toe Bellevilles. They’re fine.

Ive worn 4 different boots with the army, im sticky with my rocky boots for the navy. Im hoping i wont have to do a 2 week ADT on a ship and have to buy the black steel toe just for the cruise!
I'll most likely be in a building and/ or a sandbox anyway.

I have also worn belleville....i liked them too, but they werent the kyber model

Any desert or black boot is acceptable. I’ve seen flight boots, the ones the NEX sells, the side zip sneaker type, whatever. Especially as an Officer reservist, don’t think anyone would care.

I've heard pretty good things about Bates and 5.11 as well.

These should do just fine.

well that link to the model didn't work. Here is the model #, FQ0000104
Um, those prices are 3x the cost of the same boot in the NEX online store.

@snake020 Just wait until you are in DEERS, go to the NEX website, log in, and buy the coyote boot there. It’s like $80 if I recall. The NEX website may still have your info. Or visit a Navy uniform shop.

No one will care if your first drill weekend returning to SELRES is in civvies.
