I need some advice?

Should I request the conditional release before my Army AD service obligation is up?

Is it worth even trying?

I'm halfway through 6 years, but this my only shot into the Coast Guard DCA program?

Please advise......

I'd say you should try - You may not get picked up for the DCA program, gut if you don't try you'll regret that I would bet.

That seems right, I guess I'll just address my chain of command and let them know what I want to do. Thanks

Best of luck. I know the Navy is very hesitant to let guys go until they get their pound of flesh. With the forecast drawdown in the Army, though, you may luck out and get a release.

Good things await you on the other side. I have a few buds who have done the DCA from various branches and they all universally love it. We had an army dude at Whiting flying the T-34 who had never flown fixed wing prior to the IUT in the Mighty Mentor.

Well I guess I'll go see my O5 and let him know about my intentions. We'll see what kind of repercussions I get.

I ran into him on an out andin a few years ago after I left the VTs. He looked like he was enjoying the job much more than when he flew with me as an IUT and trying to figure out why the wings weren't moving.

Anyone know stats on how often navy lets guys go do DCA with only getting, say, 1/2 to 3/4 lb of flesh? I'm a P-3 guy on shore tour and getting back into a solid flying pipeline looks pretty great.

Independent of DCA board stats, you will still have to finish your Wings +8. Your detailer isn't going to release you prior to that. DCA also has a stipulation that you have to have less than 10 years of service. Only you can do the math on how that works out for your situation.
