So at Christmas when you need to ship gifts (well the ones Amazon isn't delivering for you on Prime Air/Atlas) you don't get the discount? Sucks.
Sort of.. Usually we get an email or such telling us when to stop using it.. I think it’s the week of Xmas but I don’t remember. I’m sure folks still use it but I would certainly use it minimally. And that might be what the email says. All I know is that as a pilot if you you use it, your name and address better be either the sender or receiver. I know of many a people that have gotten time off for not. Last I heard was a captain used it with a processing and packaging company to send fish he had actually caught in Alaska and got time off because the company used their business name instead of his as sender and I think he sent it to his son and not his house.

That A220 looks like a a B737-700 killer. Economy, comfort, something designed this century.

To some degree the -700 is already dead. People stopped buying them a while back, and the MAX7 only has like 30 orders. Everyone decided that the stretched versions made more money with similar operating costs.

It’s an interesting concept though. The version Delta has ordered is basically a slightly larger RJ. The bigger version is similar to a 737-700 or A319, both of which aren’t selling. If they stretch it further it will be interesting how it competes with the MAX8, and fellow Airbus product, A320. If they are willing to do that.

The 737-700 has been dead for a while orders wise....

The fate of the MAX7 is in SWAs hands.

Word is the 220 is more efficient and therefore cheaper to operate than the MAX during shorter stage lengths. It will be interesting to see if it’s operating costs are low enough to offset the costs in training, mx etc that’s bringing an additional fleet type into service for most airlines.

Early indications are that the MAX7 is also dead. SWA deferred most of their deliveries to years from now and opted for more MAX8’s. I think they’re taking 7 next year. Useful for stuff like DEN-HNL or deep S America

I haven't been on a MAX yet. What is the difference between a 728 and a MAX8? Better economy? Longer Range? Same Passengers?

A MAX8 and a -800 are the same size. No change for the passengers except it’s a little quieter. It has more efficient engines, I’ve heard 14%. So more range without more fuel.

I thought the super duper 737 (aka 8/9/10 MAX) was supposed to be sort of a 757 killer (even though the 757 has been dead since they shutdown the production line). It carries almost as many paying passengers as the 757 but burns a lot less fuel... and sacrificing some performance that you only need to get out of certain high elevation airports.

I think the A220 sorta splits the difference of the various non-MAX 737s; the seating capacity of the older ones still in service but with range of the newer series.

Apples, apples, and more different kinds of apples.

Fuel savings is profit in good times and the difference between bankruptcy and staying afloat in bad times.

I still see 757’s at SNA. That’s a short runway and if it’s wet, the tandem gear of the 757 still gets it done. That’s the advantage of the 757. The 737 can get stretched until it’s a MAX10, but it can’t stop or reject on short runways. SWA’s biggest base* is MDW and short, snowy runways can’t handle a fully loaded Franken-stretched 737.

*it might be BWI but it’s close

Good point- I should have said high elevation airports and other airports with shorter runways.

Not sure there is enough money in it for anybody to risk building a narrowbody with big engines that could truly replace the 757.

The A321 NEO is the nearest thing to a 757 replacement. Close to the capacity, good range.

After sitting on the jump in a 321, I would trade the guppy for it in a fucking heartbeat. Quiet, comfortable, intuitive layout and controls.

Boeing needs to get their next narrow body going...while they can basically print money with the 73, it’s at the end of its evolution.

A321NEO will be a great aircraft eventually. Lots of growing pains going on now. At Hawaiian we figure it’ll be another year - year and a half before we quit having regular A330 replacements on NEO flights.

Which engine did Hawaiian get with their order? I’ve seen a couple of yours while passing through LAX. Looking forward to flying it when we get it. Rumor true that it has a really fucking long engine start?
