Whoa, looks like the Air Force actually has it right...
Not on this AF base! Cannot wear them in PTU. Of course, I don't wear the PTU and nobody here knows what the Navy uniform regs are anyhow, so I don't think anyone would question me...

Is that even a legal order? That's like saying "no orange shoes." Or when the SgtMaj tells everyone "NO SILKIES!!" and all the pilots show up in silkies out of spite.

Get a life people.
Sure it's legal. You can always go more restrictive, not less restrictive, on existing standards. Now, "Is it a reasonable order?" is a different question. I've always thought the USMC had enough rules without adding our own personal preferences.

Balogna. I'm the OIC for a reserve mobilization, and for the past 5 months sending guys to schools, and the coming 4 months we'll be on active duty before we deploy, I'm using an execution matrix vice an LOI.

Of course, I still have a shit ton of ORMs to do, including wiping my ass.

I think that's the key element right there... KBay's talking "real" Marine Corps, and you're talking about the "slightly more common sense" Marine Corps. Two different beasts entirely.

Of course, I still have a shit ton of ORMs to do, including wiping my ass.
Unfortunately, the "real" Marine Corps is starting to invade our little island...

Looks like a common sense win for Big Navy.

Wow, one of the few times common sense prevails. Of course the rest of the PT uniform is still an abomination and I will continue to do my best to never wear it again.

If you haven't seen it, there's a new version of the shirt that's made by New Balance that is actually wicking. The shorts still suck.

I have both the shorts and shirt from New Balance. They still aren't great compared to commercially available PT gear, but they are an improvement, even the shorts. Beware though buying them the shorts by NB are cut much smaller than the standard Navy ones. I have pairs of both, and my NB ones are much more snug.

I just wear the old style Soffe mesh shorts with navy on them. They are cheaper, way more comfortable, and unless someone is really digging, look authorized for wear.
