A quick caveat to Pags' great point: If you do go to the hangar, ask the maintenance guys if you can sit in or open up a particular helo and don't actually throw switches.

I'm also a big fan of muscle memory development in the CPTs. If you don't have to think much about "uh, how do I accomplish this checklist" you can focus more on actually flying.

Don't they start stressing CRM in the HTs? Can't the other dude run the checklist? Besides, is there that much to the checklists? Landing Checks? Yep, the skids are still there.

Don't forget "is the spinny thing being spinny at full spinny?" Nf/Nr: 100% (God, how do I remember that?)

Yes they do, Challenge and response. The instructor reads the checklist, the student throws the switches. And I've always liked landing at Air Force fields as the tower is required to say "Check gear down and locked" which I respond, "Skids down and locked"

we make them! 24" x 30" with checklist and notes spaces also

You may make them, but you don't sell them here without the webmaster's permission.

I'm guessing that since this thread is over a year old that it's no longer needed :)

Greetings,

I just finished primary at Vance and I'm going helos. Could somebody hook me up with some insight about what to expect at Milton? It sucks that I have no idea what it's like to fly Navy or what to expect at Milton. Thanks.

It seems like the guys coming from Vance I know didn't have too much trouble with the transition.

They will let you sit in on some briefs to see the difference, but again, according to the guys I know coming from there it wasn't really necessary.

You WILL have to perform emergency procedures in the actual aircraft that you are flying though. And if you aren't scheduled for the day, it's expected that you can study on your own without being told to come in and sit around for 12 hours.

See if typing the word 'Vance' into the search box answers some of those questions.

(Quick- before the "use the search function" dogpile begins!)
