Taking ASTB tomorrow

#1
I take the ASTB and do my MEPS physical tomorrow.
I’ve studied as much as I’ve been able to considering the ASTB is in the same timeframe as my midterms for school.
The material on this website was super helpful.
Are there any last tips I should know before going in on the test and on my MEPS physical?
Any information is greatly appreciated.

Good luck!

for MEPS, my best piece of advice would be related to your physician's exam. Answer openly and directly, no more no less. For example, if you are asked "have you ever been diagnosed with asthma", bad answers would include "yes, but I disagree with the doctor and don't think I really have it" or "no, but I borrow my brother's inhaler sometimes when I get tight in my chest" or "I don't think so, but I have trouble breathing sometimes after I run". Good answers would include "yes" or "no" and waiting for the doctor's follow up question.

The duck walk and the related exercises were a piece of cake and I am over 40 years old and by no means an athlete. Beyond mild embarrassment from being in a room with strangers in just your underwear, which you will need to get over if you join the military, it's just basic flexibility with a doctor watching for any red flags.

Also, I'd strongly recommend being cordial and courteous to everyone on staff at MEPS. They are not above making someone look stupid and foolish in front of 50 other people if it is deserved.

^This^. The first thing I noticed walking into the room was a sign "Do not drink water until you vomit" right above the water fountain. About an hour later I hear a splashing sound on the floor and the see someone wheel over a bucket and mop for the kid who threw up so he could clean it himself.

1. Search. Tons of ASTB "last minute" information on here.
2. Search. There are tons of MEPS physical information to help you get ready for the big day. Youtube is one of them.

This is the most solid piece of advice ever.

When I spoke to the doctor, she asked me about my menstrual cycle. “Is it regular?”

I said, “haha, yes, painfully so.” Meaning, shit I wish i could skip a period, but no they’re always perfectly on time. But she immediately went:

“Painful? How painful? So painful you have to call out of work or stay home from school?”

She basically immediately thought I may have undiagnosed endometriosis. I hurried to settle the record and clarify my meaning.

A girl I met here on AirWarriors answered “sometimes I take a Tums if I eat spicy food” to a question about non-prescribed medication use, and the doctor went nuts wth it and said she had an undiagnosed acid reflux disease. Now she’s PDQ for unrestricted line.

This sort of thing can easily get you permanently disqualified if they decide you have some disease just from your answers. Answer “yes” or “no,” and do not self disagnose.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to thank everyone for their posts and recommendations for the MEPS and the ASTB.
I was finally able to finish taking my ASTB and completed my packet for SNA Applicant.
I scored 63 7/7/8 on the ASTB. I was expecting to get a higher score on my OAR portion but my recruiter said that my scores would be considered quite competitive. I currently have a 3.7 GPA in my Physics major with a minor in Mathematics.
I still have a couple more semesters of school left also.
Any comments or feedback from anyone would be greatly appreciated on how competitive my scores and GPA will be in my packet once submitted.
Thank you everyone!

Greetings! I'm currently helping a fellow sailor put together his package for OCS. Question regarding the ASTB...can you recommend any study material that has helped you throughout the process? Thanks in advance.

Hi. Most of the material recommended by RUFiO181 really helped out a lot. One tool that actually really helped me that is not included in RUFiOs material was QUIZLET. Honestly I just downloaded the App, searched for ASTB and I got so many flashcards to study from with a lot of useful material. I would say that tool helped me out a lot. I got a 63 on my test so I would say the results speak for themselves.
