I am a first tour Supply Officer and have about another year left of this. I get my pin around January, put on JG in late May, and transfer in January 2012. After this will be a shore tour. I definitely want to lat transfer to AMDO. Side note, I am a prior enlisted AT(I)3.
It's not the easiest thing to get these answers from the CO or XO and my Suppo regarding this on a ship that caters primarily to SWOs and secondary to Supply Officers, and I'm going to guess that none of them know a whole lot about AMDOs. I glanced over the lat transfer requirements for AMDO and I seem to recall it saying that a pin was required, which is not a problem, and then the paperwork process begins.
My question is when does the lat transfer come into effect: immediately, upon approval of the transfer and subsequent orders or do I have to fulfill this initial four-year commitment to the Supply community? Does anybody have any insight into this? If so, I appreciate whatever information you can give me.
