career progression of supply

I was wondering on average how long it takes to get from food service, and inventory management to logisitics or a specialized field...any examples or knowledge would be appreciated

General career progression is to go to sea as a division officer as an ENS/JG, to shore for a tour or two doing a variety of things (from general supply to internships), then back to sea as a department head, then usually Navy funded grad school. About this time, you're putting on LCDR and after that, anything goes.

While this is very general, your first tour will likely be as Disbursing Officer/Ship Store Officer on a smaller ship. As far as specialization goes, unless you do an internship during your first shore tour, you won't specialize until after you get your masters.

You asked a very general question with many answers. If you can narrow it down I can answer a lot better.

I would like to know the responsibilities of an ensign to a junior lt as well as whether there is a security promotion involved within these ranks?

I recommend you get a copy of a book called the "Division Officer's Guide." The day to day DIVO life early on isn't unlike a SWO as that book details, only now you throw in managing stock inventories and being responsible for procedural compliance of those stores within your division. All of which is covered in Supply School.

As far as security, it is all a need to know basis, nothing really special about it.

I've searched pretty extensively, so I don't think I missed the answer to this question, but I may have. Anyway, can someone breakdown the number of supply ENS/LTJG on the different platforms? I know that on subs and MCM there is only one, but can't find any on other platforms (CVN, CG, DDG, FFG, PC, LCS, LHA, LHD, LPD, etc). Also, what about air squadrons? Thanks in advance!

Just remember that Seabee battalions are very few these days. :(

very true, more than a few CEC officers could complete their four year obligation without going to Battalion, one of mine has gone from PW to PW with a promise the next tour will be Battalion, I know of only one of my guys I put in CEC who was able to go Battalion right out of OCS

I don't want to threadjack, but that is terrible!!!! You absolutely HAVE to get your SCW (seabee combat warfare) pin to put on O4 as a CEC with how tight things are getting and the only way to do that is to go to a Battalion.

That being said, if you are a Supply Officer who is lucky enough to get put with the 'Bees, GET YOUR SCW PIN!!!!!!! (does that put this back on track? lol)

Yep, but things are tight, so while it used to be that you will get your pin in your 1st or 2nd tour, now it is up to 3rd tour.
