Making Recruiting Great Again
Good evening all,
Anyone that has recently been to OCS able to comment on the current running shoe policy. I have read in the thread and the OCS website that they are issuing running shoes as well as recommend bringing another pair of our own shoes. For the IST and other evaluated running events, are all students running in issued shoes, or are we able to run in our own shoes. If they are requiring issued shoes to be used for events, does anyone know the actual shoe that is being issued? I would like to start running in that model if that is the case. Thank you for your help everyone.

You can easily find that answer on the OCS page, in particular items to bring.

You will need to bring a clean pair to keep on display for RLP. The ones you will run in everyday are the New Balance they issue to you.
Bring a clipboard for getting creases/ folds perfect on sheets. Also pick up a “ninja star” - it’s a quilting 14-1 measuring tool that will be very useful for RLP.
Don’t underestimate the value of doing push-ups and sit ups before you go. IST is no joke. Many roll for improper form and numbers.

Thank you Rufio and msmjw for the replies. I meant specifically the model of the issued New Balance Shoe. I am unable to tell which it is from the photos. I understand the items to bring list from the OTC website. I was just going to attempt to train in that specific model of New Balance shoe. And from the photos on the Facebook page as well as the OTC website, I was unable to tell if the issued ones are the daily runner. Thank you as well for the other recommended items.
EDIT: I have been training in Brooks running shoes, specifically the Ghost 10 in addition to the situps and pushups. Just wanted to check to see if anyone had the specific New Balance model that was being used at OCS.

My buddy that graduated in April said there were several different models they could issue you based on your feet.

You won’t have access to any running shoes except for the ones they give you at any point during OCS. I was issued New Balance 860v6 shoes, but I believe there were 3 different styles of New Balance you could be issued based on your foot profile

Great thank you for the information!

The Guide to Success says to bring shirts/socks; these are not on the packing list on the OCS website. Should I follow the Guide to Success or the more recent OCS website? Think I just answered my own question.

Think you answered your own question.
Thank you. I have another stupid question - my recruiter is telling me I can stay at King Hall on Saturday night, which seems to contradict most everything I see online that says to stay at the Navy Lodge/Gateway. Are we allowed to check in/spend the night on Saturday?

Assembling my bag to take to OCS this week so I am going to cash in my stupid questions now. When it says Zip Lock bags, should these be the gallon ones? What are they going to hold? Also, I assume they make us use specific toiletries since they only want us to bring a week supply?

Yeah bring the gallon bags. They’re used to store items for RLP like perfectly dethreaded and delinted clothes. They’re not required, but they help.

Toiletries (tooth brush/paste, floss, razor, shampoo, shower soap, etc) are your responsibility besides the issued toilet paper and hand soap. They tell you to bring a week supply because you won’t be able to go to the NEX to restock until the following weekend after you arrive.
