Ah hell yeah, thank you all for the info. Would running 4 times a week be good? Or should I just get used to doing ballistic exercises? (I.e. Burpees, jump squats, any kind random ab crunch)
short answer...yes. do all. you will do 30 minute sustained runs as well as short burst exercises. train for it all.

30 minutes? I was told for run days to expect to run ~3 miles at around 18-24 minute pace, depending on which speed group you’re in. When would we be running for 30 sustained minutes?

on straight run days, the DIs stood in the middle of the field and started a stopwatch. orders were to run laps around the track. they dont care how fast or how far you go. at 20 minutes, the indoc and H classes get ordered off the field for in place pt(pushups and situps) at 25 minutes, jr OC class gets off, and at 30 minutes, Sr OC and candios get off. granted this was 2 years ago so unless the PT program changed drastically which i highly doubt.

Nope definitely still the same!

They have incorporated jog/sprints, though. On the track, you jog for 1 minute, and sprint for 30 seconds.

Ok so, I'm a former athlete, I played pro baseball, and got released recently (Thanks Rays) I can bang out 70 push ups 90 sit ups and run the mile and a half in at least 12 min, but I'm over the max weight by 15 lbs (I'm 194 but my max weight says 181)

Are they really strict with the weight issue or will they just do what they did at MEPS and take a waist measurement? I'm just not trying to get rolled or, worse case, dropped for something I could fix now rather than later.

What level were you at last year? when is your OCS date?

I was in an independent league but I got up to low A with the Rays, and I'm shipping out May 20th.

Also Jog-sprint-jogs actually sound kinda fun. Makes shit go by quicker. Although I wonder how the cadence runs will be like (if there are any)

Evening All,

I have a few random questions

1) What are roll vs. failing offenses? From what I can tell, if you don't pass the initial Physical Fitness Assessment you will be rolled. You can fail your first RLP and remain with your class. However, you must pass a secondary RLP in order to remain with your Indoc Class and not be rolled. Is this accurate?

2) For the initial Physical Fitness Assessment, are you safe from being rolled if you meet Good-Medium standards (not that I am striving for that) or do they roll the bottom third of the class? I have heard that the entire bottom third gets rolled, but cannot find anything to support it.

Thank you for your help!

Hhhhmmm, I just can’t really understand all the questions about PRT from future OCS candidates.

Come on people you want to be in the military, why are you not working out PRIOR to getting to OCS?

The standards are ridiculously easy IMHO.

I never once in 30 years ever came close to failing, and I’m not a PT guru by any means. ?

1. Yes. If you fail RLP the first time, you have another shot the next day. If you fail that, then you roll.

2. That’s false. They don’t arbitrarily roll a certain percentage of the class for anything.

Thank you, for your feedback. I am definitely getting into shape well beforehand. I was just looking for some clarity. Thanks, again.
