Here's a less photogenic shot of the lady taken the morning after colliding with a freighter in 1980. I was in a passageway one knee knocker away from Ready 6 when it happened. We were extremely lucky that the LOX plant didn't blow.
Totally would've ruined bagels the next morning if there wasn't lox.
Offloaded at Subic Bay NAS (if I recall correctly). The collision had occurred about 450 miles southwest.

HE-ER Mark 148 (Planned)
13.65 in (34.7 cm) diameter, extended-range (ER), sub-caliber projectile with sabot. Length was approximately 72 in (183 cm). Projectile was to be ET-fuzed with a payload of about 300 M48 grenade submunitions. Experiments with this projectile were conducted during the 1980s, but development was cancelled in FY91 when the battleships were decommissioned. Projectile weight without the sabot was about 1,300 lbs. (590 kg) and range was to be in excess of 70,000 yards (64,000 m) at a muzzle velocity of 3,600 fps (1,097 mps). See photograph below.

Advanced Gun Weapon Systems Technology Program 16/11-Inch Long Range GPS Concept with Sabot.
Another sub-caliber projectile with sabot, this one 11 inches (28 cm) in diameter. This project was also cancelled about FY91.

HMS Prince of Wales. From being involved with the Bismarck to ferrying Churchill across the ocean to sign the Atlantic Charter to being the first battleship sunk by aircraft while maneuvering at sea: 10 Dec 1941. Interesting that the British Command was debating whether or not to sail the Prince of Wales and Repulse to assist the US Navy immediately after Pearl Harbor. They were to make a decision the next day but awoke to hear of the two ships sinking by Japanese carrier aircraft.
HMS Glorious. Originally a battlecruiser, converted to an aircraft carrier. Unfortunately for the British, she made the mistake of coming into gun range of the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau - one of the few instances where a battleship got the better of a carrier.
