Ah, second Seabolt's for really good seafood in Oak Harbor.

BBQ Joint is good as well, but for beer and BBQ I'd definitely recommend Bastion. They honestly give BBQ Joint a run for the money.
Damn, that’s impressive. I had some beers with Joe when I demobilized in late 2016; that’s the last time I set foot in his bar, and they were just getting up to speed. I’ll have to swing by next time I’m checking on my condo. Bit of a haul from the south side of town, unfortunately . . .

I never said go for the pizza.

Concrete: go through for the mountains, stop for the pizza, get out before the locals know you're there.
The only good reason to travel to Concrete is to proceed through it on your way to hiking in Rockport. Advising someone who is TDY for swim phys to go to Concrete is absolutely ludicrous. Full stop.

Thread resurrection:

Headed to swim soon, where to eat/drink near Whidbey?
Wait...isn't there a Wendy's on base near the NEX Mini Mart? I know you Marines are used to the luxuries of the "BK Lounge," but isn't that good enough? ?

Yeah, with only a week I'll admit that's a bit of a time sink for what it is.

Then again if Rockport is your hiking destination of choice maybe a bit further of a trip is advisable...

You can't swing a dead cat in the North Cascades without hitting incredible hiking spots. Potato, po-tah-to . . .

My point was it gets better the further east you go from Concrete and the drive really isn't that far unless you're used to everything being 15 minutes from everything. Rockports fine but nearer the Natl Park goes from good to great pretty quick.

I went to Bastion, which had good beer and a well above average burger. I was tempted to try the bbq but I generally avoid bbq outside of Texas or maybe the south.

Overall I was impressed with the area. That’s a beautiful part of the country.

Somehow scored a reservation at The French Laundry during a recent Napa honeymoon trip. Very cool to see what one of the top restaurants in the world is like. Words don’t really do it justice but for me the highlights were the truffle mac and cheese, the oysters and pearls, the smoked quail, and the buckwheat ice cream.27776277772777827779

Waffle House. I’m a connoisseur of breakfast food establishments, nothing beats the WH across from Home Depot on 90 in Milton.

Two egg breakfast, eggs over easy, covered, capped, with white toast, extra butter, and hot coffee...

Also love to dabble in local fare when deployed, or detached, by far my best experience was in Santiago, Chile at a restaurant called “Boragó”. Michelin two-star, the food was impeccable.
