Question About Age

Hi all,

I'm leaving for OCS in a month as an SNA. I will turn 27 in July 2016. Do I need to be in API or Primary before my 27th birthday? Or is it just that I need to be commissioned before my 27th? I am concerned that my commission will occur in March 2016 and then I will not class up until much later, thus losing my AOC status.

I ask because the sources of information I've found have different results, as well as my recruiter not knowing after I noticed some of his info was bad:

https://www.navycs.com/officer/aviationofficer.html
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/l/blpilotage.htm
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Naval_Aviator

NavyCS says "not have passed their 27th birthday on commissioning" which leads me to believe that I can report to API or Primary after July 2016, but thought I'd ask anyway in case someone had direct knowledge.

Thank you!

@Hammer10k...congratulations regarding acceptance to OCS.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP: IMHO, do not wear the t-shirt displayed in your avatar when you arrive at OCS...it will put you on the radar immediately...and you want to stay off the radar as long as possible. ;)

Sort of. :D

I hit the radar immediately at AOCS for other reasons:
  • Not being able to march (not intentional)
  • Dropping my rifle (not intentional)
  • In general, I was (and still am) an all-around doofus that tended to screw stuff up (not intentional)
My only saving graces at AOCS were that I had a great attitude, was a good team player and was physically faster/stronger than anyone else in the class.

I just went through this same scenario. Turned 27 2 weeks after I graduated OCS, and there was one other pilot who turned 27 less than a week after. I was so scared of rolling because I was under the impression I would be kicked out of the program. I have had this conversation with many people since and they told me that once I was there designated as an SNA I was good to go even if I would have rolled. All hearsay but from reliable sources so sorry if Im spreading a little bit of bad gouge here.

The NRD I was at (wasn't my applicant) was rolled and turned 27 in OCS, he was forced to redesignate, there was also a person on this site who had a classmate that had to redesignate due to turning 27 in OCS, what they (USN) say and what they (USN) actually do are 2 different things (it isn't up to OCS who has to redesignate due to age)
