Peanut allergy on flight physical

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this question. I was just selected for SNA and completed my flight physical. However, I am allergic to peanuts (it is a minor allergy which causes minor swelling of my lips and tongue, nothing unmanageable) which came back as a remedial on my physical. I was told to see an allergist which I did. He confirmed I was allergic but wrote a note for BUMED stating my history proved it to be a minor allergy. I had this same problem with my DODMERB physical but a waiver was approved. Has anyone heard of this before or know someone who is allergic to peanuts in the fleet? I don't think it should be a problem to get a waiver for the flight physical but I want to make sure. I would hate to get seperated at this point for something like this. Any help is much appreciated.

I don't think your allergy is dis-qualifying. I know lots of aviators that are allergic to various things such as egg products. You'll get to wear a RED dogtag with your listed allergies. Good luck.

I have a tree nut allergy and I have never had a problem with my flight physicals. And I don't wear a red dog tag either.

As an aside, what is with peanut allergies nowadays? When I was growing up, I never heard of them, now they're banned in lunchrooms because peanuts are like VX gas to half the kids. Is there some mass genetic or environmental phenomenon going on here? George Washington Carver must be spinning in his grave. BTW, I am not allergic to peanuts, I just hate them.

Thank you gentlemen, I didn't think it would be a big deal but I just wanted to make sure, red dog tags do sound cool though. As for the whole peanut allergy I've been allergic to them all my life but it is pretty mild. I'm not one of those people who can't even be in the same room as them. I don't even think I know anyone else who is allergic to them also so I thought it was pretty rare but maybe not. Anyways, thank you for the help.

I think giving kids too much of it when their really little creates the allergy or something. I remember reading something about that in some "congrats your a dad" book, but I don't recall specifics.
I blame JIF for making PB&J such an easy choice for lazy parents.

I had a roommate on my second cruise who was allergic to peanuts. Would break out in hives and had to get a shot periodically. Was in for 9 years, flew combat missions, etc. Had the red dog tags. Only thing they gave him a "bye" for was not crawling through the "vat o' slop" during the crossing the line ceremony.

Oricon, I know this is old, but did you ever run into any trouble with your peanut allergy? I am gathering my medical records for MEPS now. My allergy is similar.

It’s hit or miss with the allergy. Just depends on the extent of the allergy exposure. If you’re needing an epipen for something like this then i have really bad news for you...

Ok good, I can eat peanuts and peanut butter without much consequence. Just an itchy mouth. I guess all I can do is submit my records and wait.

Modern (post 1980s) medical research says that it's just the opposite.
