Package Check and Stats discussion

Allyoucaneat,

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago...always wanted to be a pilot, would be happy to be an NFO if not selected for SNA but really want that SNA slot above all. Are scores are almost identical. I got a 7/7/9 56. I think you just need to go somewhere quiet and reflect. If you can see yourself as an NFO, then by all means apply for SNA and SNFO. But, on the other hand, if you think "nah, I dont want to take a back seat to the pilot. I only want to be the pilot, then you've answered your own question. Personally, I am only applying for SNA. If I am not selected I'll wait six months and reapply for SNA as well as SNFO and Intel. The reason I'm not putting SNFO and Intel the first time around is that I don't want to screw myself out of a chance to be an NFO or Intel officer. Generally, if a board selects you and you reject you don't get a second shot at it. So think carefully about what you really want to do (where can you really envision yourself when you dream about the next 8 to 10 yeas of your life). Hope that helps. Feel free to PM me.
Thanks, Great advise.

I think it is real important to love what you do, especially if you are doing it for the next 10 to 20 years (I want to make a career with the Navy, so maybe 20+ yrs, albiet I probably wouldn't be able to fly past 15yrs. I am 25 years old). And I think I know the answer.

-edited: Thank you guys. You completely answered my questions. I appreciate the help.

It's mind games!
Your scores are good. Apply and see what happens. Your stats look pretty solid so think positive and go for it. I got picked up with only a 7/7/6 55. I also only applied SNA. Why put something else if you don't really want it?

I edited my origional post. You guys are right.

He bowls overhand.
I never understand these types of threads.

The formula for whether or not you should re-test or wait to improve something is the following:

1. Have you taken the ASTB 3 times? Yes, then apply. No, then go on to #2...
2. Do you think your scores would benefit from more study time and a re-test? No, then apply. Yes, then study and retake the test. Even if your current scores might be "good enough," (and I really have no idea whether they are or not) why risk the rejection if you know you can do better?

It's really that simple. Few people, if any, on this forum can tell you "what your chances are," because we're not sitting on the aviation board. I understand you might be a little (or a lot) nervous about the whole thing, but really the only thing you can control is putting together the best package possible and let the chips fall where they may.

Thank you.
My recruiter is set on me doing the PRT before I send in my packet.

My recruiter in Gainesville had me do the same thing. Make sure that you can get a solid good-low in every category before leaving for OCS. The last thing you want is to be sent to H Company right off the bat and spend an extra few weeks in Newport.

My recruiter said that we will push through and apply for the Sept boards, so I guess he changed his mind about the PRT before since we have about a week left to submit it. All I have to do now is finish my personal statement and my package is complete. I'm glad (about the Sept boards)because now I can continue working out and be a month ahead of where I would be.

What is a good score on the PRT months ahead of OCS? I know I have to be in top shape right before, but I was wondering about if I got pro-rec'ed and then took the PRT...

Max out. Why not?

Max out. Why not?
Of course, but my max now isn't sufficient for what I'd need at OCS. I've got to build up to that level of performance. If you meant max out as in Outstanding-High, then I wish I could already... I'm 6'2'' 198lbs and should be at about 185 -I think.

Final Select SNA
I got a 6/6/7 52 on my ASTB

5 LOR's: 1 ret. naval aviator, 1 former employer, 1 USAF 0-5, 1 USAF SMSgt, and 1 Army 3 star general

My PRT wasn't the best (a good medium) @ 10:58, 65 pu, & 67 su

I have a 3.01 from Texas A&M

I have A LOT of leadership experience/responsibilities throughout my time in the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets.

I already did MEPS, and have been blessed with good health and vision.

In all honesty, what's my odds? I applied for SNA only.

ASTB: 6's and better, over 50 OAR
GPA: Over 3.0
PRT: Passing
LORS: Don't know unless I read them, but the fact that there's a good deal of military is a plus.

From what i've seen in previous boards, these are numbers of people that have been selected. I would give you an average chance of getting selecting. The only things that can keep you from it are out of your control (competitiveness of the month, # of slots available). Just my opinion, but if you aren't selected, all I can suggest is redoing the ASTB. Your scores are good, but that's really the only thing you can improve at this point.

Package check (what were your scores?)

We all know that it varies from one time to another on how good your package has to be to pick up SNA, so I want to hear from you guys what your scores, GPA, PRT were when you got selected for SNA. If you don't mind, of course :)

Thanks

note to mods: if there is a better thread for this, please put it there.

I don't remember my ASTB scores.

4.0 International Business (I only had one semester completed at my 4-year university. The other 1.5 years were at a Community College)

I think my PRT was Good High.

The only flight time I had before IFS involved someone offering me peanuts.
