O Club at NASP

Sorry, Nuclear Unqualified Bodies in Nuke terms (in this case, young impressionable Pilots and NFOs)...I don't know the equivalent in Pilot talk.

I'm resurrecting this old thread (because I was looking up dice rules in prep for next month's Tailhook Reunion and anticipating hanging out with Debbie at the I-Bar East). I remember when several of us ENSs went out and (by bicep power) picked up a jackass instructor LT's car to move it to another spot when he parked in the "Any Ensign or 2LT spot" at Mustin Beach O'Club. Now, I'm a CAPT and I stand by our decision to take that action.

I went to the O Club for the first time last week to congratulate my friend on his Flight Suit Friday. What a cool place, it's packed with naval aviation history and good cheer. Some of the older guys were playing a game with dice. It looked like a blast, I'm going to join them next time. It would be fun to revive some of the "good old days".

Pensacola was cool for the API stuff, but that place seemed dead after 1800 as everyone emptied to Palafox.

The good old days, or the closest thing to them, still exist at places like Iwakuni and the Cock. There are some other good places in that AO too that people have going on. It’s a byproduct of being locked up in a cage with nothing else to do. The USAF seems to take their shit seriously.

Ah, the good old days! The clubs in Pensacola were cool, man were they fun. Go-Go dancers included. Oh , and beer machines were in all the barracks, ten cents a can.

Saw my first beer machine in Japan last year. It was an amazing and glorious piece of machinery. You're telling me that these things used to be here in the US??!? Wow. Back in the good old days when we still loved freedom. :(

They were still on Wake Island last time I was there, that's still part of the US!

NASNI Qs used to have beer machines back when I was a mid on my 3/c cruise. I don't remember them still being there when I was a 1/c or an RP at the FRS.

Can confirm, they are not there. Otherwise I probably would have attended at least another half dozen Captain's Masts (as part of the chain, you assholes!).

The Whiting BOQ had them as recently as 2010! But they probably went away when they tore the brand new oclub down...

Hold on...if I understand this correctly they built a “new” O Club at Whiting...and then tore it down? What happened to the “old” O Club? I still have my “forced membership mug” from that place!

There used to be several roadside vending machines loaded with cold “road pops” for that long drive between Atsugi and Yokosuka. You could also get cold or hot coffee in cans (long before Starbucks existed).

I bet the strippers on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the NAS Miramar O’Club were funner.

Never mind...they’re probably all on Medicare now.

The "New" O Club was near the approach end of 14 at South Field. It was a brand new building, with a pool and the whole 9 yards. I don't know the real story, but I remember the rumors were that the building was built too tall and the FAA said that it violated the laws about runway encroachment, or something like that.

Looking at Google maps, the parking lot and pool are still there, but the building is not. Sad that generations of SNAs don't have an official club. Though I hear there is a new brewery in downtown Milton that is doing a pretty good job of being the unofficial one.
