Stupid question time, why?

CVW-5 goes to sea often enough that a pilot has to be ready to go straight from the FRS to their new squadron and expect to be at sea ASAP. Same reason that the Pri A grades and traps are for guys going to squadrons currently underway (regardless of CVW).

Again, the PRI A concept is for FRS CQ.

No ramp up time. You show up and can’t suck on the Ball. We had one guy that almost was sent back to the RAG, until CAG paddles went flying with him and realized he was tapping the rudder in close. I flew with him on his first few CQ’s and never wanted a jet to break so bad, I was scared shitless. The glow of the wave off light is still a very fond memory(plus the loud and very directive comments from the platform). After they figured it out, he became a solid ball flyer all around for the rest of his tour.

Way back when, I showed up in Atsugi, got 12 night bounces in Iwakuni, and walked aboard Midway a week later. My first launch was blue water and we were headed for the IO. While I was a steady day player, they wisely kept me off the night schedule until we had a divert field.

(Ranger had just done some serious paint-swapping with another vessel while steaming west and Midway took her deployment.)
