Ozark - Jason Bateman as Marty Bird absolutely kills it in this drama.

Bonus, Season 2 was released yesterday.

Trying to get into Ozark now. To me, The Killing was more attention-grabbing.

I watched the pilot for Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan (source: Amazon prime video). It was alright. Some obvious IC and DoD fumbles, though. If you freeze frame on Jack Ryan’s (a.k.a. Jim Halpert) USMC service record, first of all he’s got sideburns in his dress blues, secondly it says he is the rank “LT” (not 1Lt or 2Lt) but paygrade “E05.” It also says he was a Marine infantry officer. Later in the episode, Ryan says “oh I’m just an analyst; I don’t go in the field.” Bullllllll-shit, show me a single USMC infantry officer who would ever say that phrase out loud. Jack Ryan would probably have an EGA moto tatt, a high n’ tight, and be breaking down his boss’s door trying to go into the field while bringing his homebuilt AR.

P.S. If you are a USCG aviator/aircrew, this show makes you look like the CIA’s taxi service and valet parking in the same scene.

P.P.S. The future love interest, Cathy... is not that attractive and also looks nothing like Anne Archer in Patriot Games. I mean how hard is it to find a slender brunette in Hollywood? Honestly, casting Jenna Fischer would have been way funnier, and still slightly closer to appropriate.

I'm about 5 episodes in and want to continue watching. My main disappointment is that Greer seems to be completely rewritten, otherwise they've done a nice job of including all of the background stuff in a reboot, including Jack's dad. I just hope "Garth" (or whatever his name is) isn't supposed to be Clark.

On the other hand, not portraying a doctor as someone who could moonlight as a model for Victoria's Secret is probably a bit more realistic. You can't debunk a TV show based on a book series by saying it's not faithful to the movie.

Similarly, I think this version of Greer as a semi-disgraced former chief of station is a better fit than the retired admiral of the books. It adds depth of character. The reason I fell off the Tom Clancy train about 5 books in was that all his "hero" characters are superhuman with no human failings whatsoever. That was especially true of Ryan himself, who I think Clancy would have named Pope in addition to President of the US if he'd lived any longer.

He must be ashamed of his “God” Conduct Medal, he ain’t wearing it. Also worth noting that the 10th Marine Regiment is an artillery unit that hasn’t had a 5th battalion for six or seven years. That said, I bet he has a NAM sticker on the rear window of his car

Very possibly. Haven’t read them, except for Rainbow Six (no Jack Ryan). Have you watched the new Amazon series?
Just 4 episodes in, so far. I like it just fine. No nitpicking the back story so much tho I make note of some changes and updates from the originals.
I keep a box of paperback copies of Red Storm Rising and hand them out to any young ensign that hasn't read it yet. It should be required reading prior to commissioning.
Good on ya. I was a nuke power officer recruiter when Hunt came out. I bought a dozen or more of the books and gave them to my NUPOC candidates.
