NAVAIR Reserve Program (NRP) and DCO opportunities: AEDO & AMDO

AQ-AT -

Went on base today to look at uniforms and then I got an email this evening from OR, apparently even though I was selected in the Oct. 2016-01 board. I'm a FY17 selectee- commissioning Oct. 1st at the earliest. So the wait continues...keep the knowledge comming - great info on this thread all the best to everyone.

No way! That sucks I thought the second board of the year would pick the remaining FY16 and then about half FY17. Id call my OR, but its Christmas Eve.

I heard that 5/8 were selected, but I did not think that to be a large number.

Same thing happened to me. I was selected Oct/2014 but was not Commissioned till Oct/2015. I had to go back through MEPS for the 2nd time in July/2015 because I was over the 2 year mark on my medical.

Making it up as I go
Great information on this forum. I'm working with a recruiter in Sacramento for an AEDO Reserve commission. Just started the process in January. Wish me luck!

Does anyone know if training opportunities are the same for Reserve as Active? NTPS would be a sweet bonus to an already sweet sounding position.

Good question!

I think the TPS is just for the Lateral transfer guys? Not sure how the mix of DCO and redesigned pilots work. I understand on the active side to just be made up of just the lateral transfers, n0 DCO.
That would be a good question to ask during your interviews.

See page 2:
7a. 2 week DCOIC - your first AT
7b. 10 week AMO (aviation maintenance officer) course - no idea if this is in a classroom, or computer-based training spread out over your drill weekends like reserve NIOBC is for Intel
7c. 10 day JASSM (joint aviation supply & maintenance materiel mgmt) course - I assume this is your 2nd AT

TPS is Test pilot school, OP was asking if as a DCO AEDO would there be a path to being a Test Pilot. I think the answer is no, unless you already have time as a pilot. But the AEDO RC community brief shows lateral transfers and TPS as career milestones. But as you posted, the DCO AEDO program shows AMO school.

I thought only AMDOs attended the AMO course, that's the first I've heard of it being for AEDO as well.

Regarding TPS, I know they have civilians go through for test engineer slots, so not all attendees are test pilots. Would be sweet to attend.

Unless something has changed since 2014, AMO school is a class based school in Pensacola. From my old MMCO's and AMO's, it was sooooooo much fun ..... 4790 yay!
