So if you were cleared/approved during your pre-commissioning flight physical, is there a reason to believe that you wouldn't be during the NAMI WHAMMY? I have a slight astigmatism that the doc said was making me read 20/25 in one eye. He said w/ a corrective lens (or contact) I'm good for SNA...would they retract this in P-Cola? Does that kind of thing get worse over a short period of time (1-3 yrs)?

Mine did, but was still w/in limits (barely). I believe the words from the doc were, "You're just w/in limits, but you have no room to get worse, so we're going to have a look." After the exam, "Well, you got worse, but you're still w/in limits." Uh, thanks. But then, I've had a less than stellar experience w/ NAMI over the course of several years, but I digress.

To answer your question, yes, they can find things on the Whammy even though you had your Pre-comm.

Tobacco isn't illegal....yet, so nicotine in your system is not an issue. Just curious, what the hell does Florida have anything to do with it?

Congrats on reviving an 8 year old thread to ask your question!

Haha hey I do what I can. Thank you for the response. That's what I thought I just wasn't sure. And ya know, florida, go out to a beach bar and have a stogie and drink a beer. Certainly don't do that in Minnesota at this time of year. :D

Received my N3M letter, attached, and looks like I'll need a waiver for PRK. Still don't know all of the details. Anyone with insight on the process and wait time?

I got the same exact one years back. I think I just showed it to my eye surgeon, who laughed, and then measured my diopters which were the same as my last visit. He then wrote a letter saying my vision was indeed stable and I got the waiver a little bit later.

Edit: And looking closer I think mine may have been a bit different. Right in paragraph 3 it says the letter does not pertain to aviation communities.

Hopefully this post helps. I don't think it will end up being an issue.

Did you submit all the checkups from your eye doc? I have seen a letter like that in the past and it can be due to either not submitting the eye exams needed, or the vision correction didn't take.

Everything was sent in months ago, I got cleared from MEPS last Thursday and then I got notified about this. This is my second N3M letter, first one sent last Friday, indicated that I had not submitted my post op refractive data. So I did and now I got this letter.

your recruiter needs to go through channels to find out exactly what is missing, then get that submitted, or they need to find out what the parameter is you don't meet

I'll work on that, my processor and recruiter are out for a little while. If a waiver is required, what's the typical time line from NAMI?

not NAMI, N3M. The info will get sent to N3M, if you meet the entrance requirements then you will go to OCS, NAMI will do a much more involved process later on.

N3M could take a few days or a few weeks.
